I have only played these games, 5 of them, there will surely be more options. But this is it!

Sk yrim was an easier game to get in to than Morrowind.
And this is pretty key, because a substantial part of Skyrim's success was drawing in people who were not previously part of The Elder Scroll's audience, perhaps not even part of the audience for RPGs, and that wouldn't have been possible if entry-level play demanded a working knowledge of classic crunchy RPGs. That sort of thing is a very niche audience, and it's really very far from clear that the niche is big enough to support the ambitions of Bethesda's creative team.

Are space games like Egosoft's X series considered RPG?

I am so sorry I left out Fallout, when I did this poll I only thought about rpg in general, where Fallout surely fits in.

It looks like BG will win, and no questions about that. P:T will earn second. But the rest of the games are worth exploring and also many of the games mentioned here. I will certainly explore and get back to "old" game mode. :)

Thank you all for ideas, food for thinking for me. :)

Yes; PS:T had a superior story but its use of the D&D system was a bit awkward and I felt BG was the superior game experience as such. (Even though it should really have lost a few points due to 2nd edition AD&D being rather a mess; Icewind Dale 2 showed us how much neater the 3rd edition rules worked, but again that was more of a pure combat fest and not so much about the story, giving BG the edge in total).
