unmedt player defeated does not mean the city state was razed, it also comes up when it is conquered.

I know, but at the time, no way of knowing if conquered and kept, or obliterated.

Oh, a CS ally can wipe out the last city of a civ you're at war with, as long it's not a capital.
Had that happen. I knew there was one yankee city left after I took the cap, could see the border, but not the city.
Healed for 1 turn, next turn Teddy was eliminated. Sent a tank over and yup, CS troops and a circle on the ground.
