CTD due to mercenaries button

If there is a way to remove the button I would be very interested in it as well. Nothing is more annoying than accidently mousing over the button, having the game crash, loading civ 4, reloading the mod, playing for 5 mins and then doing it again :-(

Radeon 9xxx? I have ATI Radeon 9500c and it works fine except this stupid keyboard. Glad it will be replaced tomorrow.

I experience this on my laptop:

The situation is like this:

When I bought this game I installed this game in my PC but I'm really irritated with that keyboard problem so I installed this to my laptop only to know that I have to update it. I updated it and CIV now works fine except.......

I was just curious about things and buttons and I saw this button. I hovered around it, a bit then, the game crashed to desktop without an error message but sometimes, I recieve error messages.

I crash too when I even go to the button.

specs:

AMD Phetom II x4 955 Black Edition, it's overclocked to 3214.6 MHz
8 GB of RAM, DDR3
ATI Radeon HD 4890, 1 GB RAM on it
Latest Directx10
Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit
Both Ryne and BtS are updated to the latest.

I have an interesting new development regarding this problem. Recently, I ran RFC in BtS on my Vista partition instead of the usual Windows 2000, and there was no crash when hovering over the mercenary button, and the mercenary screen also worked properly (as far as I could tell).

So, running RFC in Vista might be a good idea if you are experiencing the merc-button CTD.

Vista here and I get mercenary button crashes all the time (although not straight to desktop, usually the game just hangs).

Never got the bug with Windows XP, Vista nor 7. If you aren't this lucky, try Ctrl + M.

I use that every time I want to enter the mercenary screen. It's the times that I don't want to, usually because I'm just trying to adjust the science slider, and the game hangs because I hover the mouse over the mercenary button that are the problem.

This crash transcends systems. Observed in Mac (10.5, stock MacBook Pro). It works sometimes, crashes sometimes.

I have Vista and I have frequently used the merc screen without any problem, although I feel like there was one time when it did CTD when I clicked on it... or maybe just moused over it.

CTD occurs probably around 50% of the time if the game is still early (i.e. - within about 150 turns or so since you spawned) but less often later.

However, since the crash occurs so often, I never use the button any more... just Ctrl-M.
