CTD (ntdll.dll problem?)

@aguscuervo - Thanks for posting the save file. I don't have those mods, so I can't open your save. Also, save files from modded games are less useful to us since the mod might be causing the crash. We do appreciate your taking the time to post about this problem, though.

Please post your DxDiag file (see my sig if you need help with that.)

Would everyone who is getting the crash in ntdll.dll please post their DxDiag files. I've read several threads on the 2K Games forum and it seems that everyone who gets this crash has an nvidia card (or cards). The DxDiag files may help us to ascertain whether this crash occurs with a particular card or driver.

I'm going to merge this thread with an existing thread on the same topic.

Moderator Action: Thread merged with an existing one.

Thank you hehe.
Starting to get addicted to it.
So little time to play and i have to split my time between civ5 or FM2011.:(

I believed it's the latest patch that causes the issue. At least for me i did not encounter any crash before the latest patch.

i got this ntdll.dll problem too, the game crashes on various points in the game...

video card is gtx 260, i got 4 gb ram, windows 7

so what is this problem? please help

thx fid

Thanks for the information. It seems that this specific crash only affects systems with nvidia cards. Your drivers are current. Is it possible to roll back your driver to something less current, say before 260.89? Don't feel that you have to try this. I wouldn't want to mess your system up!

thx for the answer petek!

i don´t want to try a rollback, who knows what happens....
is it possible that this ntdll.dll file is damaged and can it be repaired or is it only possible to fix this prob by 2k with a patch...?

are there any official confirmations by 2k for this problem, cause it seems a mount of people is afected by this error?

thx

I haven't seen an official confirmation of this problem. However, the same error has been reported multiple times on the 2K Games forum so it's reasonable to assume that 2K knows about it.

One player on the 2K forum reported solving this problem by starting the game in Windows XP, SP2 compatibility mode. You might try that. It shouldn't cause a problem if it doesn't help.

I doubt that ntdll.dll is damaged since it's a protected system file and it's unlikely that so many people, all with nvidia cards, would have a damaged dll. We could look into running Windows system file checker (or whatever it's called in Windows 7) if you like, though.

I have Nvidia, and before 11-10-10, the game would crash and leave windows at the lowest resolution available and then I would have to reboot. Before the last patch everything worked great. Now since 11-10-10, it does not crash any more it just "stops" responding. I can bring up task manager if it is minumized and end program. If it is not minumized, I can put my laptop into sleep mode and "fix" it upon waking. It seems like a video memory refresh problem, because it happens when changing "grey" areas back to texture. It happens when the view is changing in the city view and map view when switching between units and even while the view is changing between AI moves. While I am glad that it is no longer crashing windows itself, why is it happening more frequently?

I wanted to give a heads up on my ntdll.dll crash problem, which I had all the time.
After yet another few crashes today, i decided to run another verify integrity check. In the past, everytime i did this(and i tried for sure 10+ times over the last few weeks) it reported 1 file which had to be reaquired, but it never did anything about that.
Today, after the check, it actually downloaded something after the integrity check and reported that the civ installation had finished. This was ~5 hours ago and no crash since.

Game crashes pretty often since the latest patch. Most times when starting a new game, or loading a game. But occasionally also just when playing normally after some time.

Example error message in the spoiler tag.

If its of any help, running vista64, 8gb ram, core2duo 3ghz, gts250

The check said it replaced 1 file. I'll report back after i have played some hours.

edit: Nevermind, that did not help, as the first game i started crashed right away.

Well it seems that no matter how often i run the integrity verification check, it always says: "1 files failed to validate and will be reacquired."
However, as far as i can tell there are no data actually being downloaded to replace that file, nor do i see any options to start such a download.

Anyone got experience with that?

I won't say that the problem comes exclusively on the NVidia cards. I'm currently using an ATI Radeon card with the latest driver (Updated today) and I have similar problem to the users with NVidia cards.

I'm pretty sure it's related to the latest patch because not once have I CTD before that, I only get this error only after the latest patch applied

Since last patch, I get this error as well in every session, while it seemingly loads something in the background. I can see the cursor turning into the win loading cursor and then it crashes, while not in Fullscreen modus. I'm playing with nvidia gtx275.
