Summary (A reminder for myself)
Civilization: the Vikings
Level: Monarch
Map size: standard, continent, random attributes.
AI: 7 random civs (Carthage, Greece, Celts, Ottomans, Aztecs, Persians, Chinese (Dead))
Special Rules:
Cities can only be captured by Sea or by Air. "By Sea" means Berserk and Marine units can amphibiously assault and capture a city from a boat regardless of the status of the defenders. "By Air" means the city needs to be bombarded by air and sea units (also some artillery units) until all defenders are redlined, and then paratroopers and/or ground, non-motorized units (i.e. no tank, armor, or mech. inf.) deployed by Helicopters can assault. Units brought in by Helicopter can only attack the turn they are dropped off; they must return to our territory for one turn before being redeployed as attacking units. That means no taking land-locked cities until Advanced Flight. Cruise missile/nuke use undecided.

Thermopylae stole our ivory from Oslo? When did that happen? I consider vetoing the market and rushing a colosseum instead to swing the culture back our way, but investiagtion of Thermopylae shows them simply too far ahead (up 28 culture and earning 2 more per turn) so it must have happened a while ago. That really squeezes Oslo as they can only work one more tile (mountain.)
10 turns on peace treaty with Greece. They and Celts know Astronomy but Ottos and Persia don't. The price is too ridiculous to consider trying to broker it, though. Celts and Greece currently do not have saltpeter although Greece is hooking some up outside Argos.
No WW and can't get Oea or Hippo for peace, so I will continue and take the other coastal city from Carthage.
Upgrade a spear in Birka; move stuff around
1: 720 AD
Reyk: Galley -> Galley
Starving old carthaginian cities for easier control.
Celts now have Printing Press too and Ottos have added both.
2: 730 AD
Trond: Market -> Musket
Ottos start Copernicus.
Bringing about half the galleys back West for a co-ordinated attack on the celts; I doubt that'll happen on my turn.
Sink a carth galley, promoting ours to elite.
3: 740 AD
Oslo: Market -> colosseum
Stockholm: zerk -> musket
5 galleys hit Leptis Minor:
Elite zerk kills vet numid (4/5)
Vet zerk kills reg numid (1/4)
Leptis Minor falls, 1 gp pillaged.
Oea alone for peace is now close, Hippo is still an insult. Move stack of zerks toward Hippo and a couple toward Utica as a threat to see if the deal will get better next turn.
Upgrade some spears.
(I) Hannibal comes asking for peace, no Oea yet. Adding RoP is completely off the table. Looks like we managed to trash our rep against Greece anyhow based upon the responses.
4: 750 AD
Bergen: zerk -> musket
Copen: musket -> zerk
Reyk: galley -> galley.
Ah, hell. I hit the weed
and fired our scientist a turn or two ago. Not used to this 40-turn research
He's back.
Hannibal still won't do the good deal so it's time to cut him off from trading.
5: 760 AD
Lose a zerk to a longbow near carthage.
Aarhus: Market -> Musket
6: 770 AD
Trond: Musket -> zerk
Reyk: Galley -> zerk
Stock: Musket -> Musket
7: 780 AD
upgrade more spears
8: 790 AD
Cope: zerk -> zerk
Birka: market -> musket
9: 800 AD
Bergen: musket -> musket
Celts build Sistine in Camulodunum, which is on the coast
Kill longbow outside carthage, promoting zerk to elite.
Last spear upgraded.
I'm going to leave it here to even out the turns. Notes on what I'm doing:
- There are workers planting forests outside Stockholm to max production since they can't grow anymore until a hospital.
- We are still at war with Carthage because he won't give what I wanted him to give, and there's no WW currently.
- There's a musket outside Utica on a road between that and Theveste. I'm hoping that once that gets snipped he'll be more reasonable about peace. If not, get what you can I suppose.
- There are 6+ galleys chilling in Leptis Minor with enough troops to fill them; the rest of the galleys are in or were on their way to Ephesus. Within a few turns a full-scale assault on the Celts could be made.
- There's a little caravan of muskets working their way along the East coast to fortify the ex-greek cities. Most of those still have zerks in case the Greeks get nasty since they still hate us.
- All spearmen have been upgraded; Astronomy has been for sale but everyone kept asking over 800 for it. Maybe if someone builds Cops soon the price will go down. It has limited use for us with the lighthouse and plenty of galleys, so I didn't bother paying for it. PP is available too but that has no use at all if we are staying a Republic.
- Carthage and Theveste should probably swap from Musket building to temples (probably rushed) since I brought some muskets over and they're pressured by Utica. I forgot about that until now.
