I'm going to take one more turn, so that I can take Sparta and see if I can force better peace terms

Turn 11 -- 610 AD
Sparta falls. We control the Great Lighthouse!

I make peace with Greece, and get Chivalry and Gunpowder for my pains.

I'm going to let the next player finish up after my mess (sorry :( )...our troops will need to be moved, and our seaborne troops redistributed. More trading should probably happen...I leave it up to Aggie.

Let me clarify: in Turn 11, all I did was assault Sparta and make peace with Greece, no other moves were performed.

Man, the forums is all screwed up with the times....

Ok, Aggie has it, pdescobar on deck...

Our troops had a bit of training in Greece. Should we continue vs Carthage or the Celts?

Also I'd say that we don't have to research:

1 - Military Tradition: We aren't allowed to use cavalry to take out cities
2- Printing Press - Democracy: Democracy is not worth it

In short: Let's get to the industrial age asap to research the required techs for our modern war.

I would agree with that assessment. As for next target, I'm thinking Carthage first, because the boats are more or less in position. After Carthage, finish up Greece (well, the coast anyway) and then the Celts.

We should probably rush Temples; those coastal cities might flip (unless we have another way to prevent it?)

Chr Th: You did great  We captured 4 cities and still have 37 berserks left :D

Turn 1 (610 AD): I see that we are not trading at all. However, the Ottomans have something to offer: Education. I buy it for 625 gold and world map. We are the proud tech leaders now :D
I hurry cathedrals in Oslo and Aarhus for a total of 1100 gold. We are under a lot of cultural pressure there. I hurry a spear in Ephesus for 86 gold.

IT: Greece wants us out. We say that we will do that.

Turn 2 (620 AD) Oslo and Aarhus start marketplaces. Income is vital. A temple is rushed in Knossos for 224 gold.

IT: Greece now demands us to leave. We comply.

Turn 3 (630 AD) Pharsalos and Sparta rush-build a temple for a total of 420 gold. Troops are positioned. A couple of berserks builds switched to muskets.

Turn 4, 5 (640, 650 AD)

Turn 5, 6 (660 - 670 AD) Preparations. Hannibal gets the message that we are at war :D

Turn 8 (680 AD) Theveste costs us two berserks, but we manage to take the city. Carthage was also difficult, and our two berserks fail to capture the town.

IT: No real counterattack from Hannibal.

Turn 9 (690 AD) Carthage is finally captured, no real losses. We now own the Colossus.

IT: A Carthaginian knight kills a berserk near Birka.

Turn 10 (700 AD) Troops move north and kill a few Carthaginian units in our teritory.

IT: A couple of troops move towards Birka.

Turn 11 (710 AD) Leptis Magna is captured without casualties.

In this final turn I only captured Leptis Magna. The rest of the troops can still be moved. We only have Leptis Minor to grab from the Carthaginians (at least, that is what I would do). The other towns are far to the north, so maybe we should aim for the Celts first. After that we should be able to make peace.

Question: are we allowed to get a (non-coastal) city from Carthage for peace?

710 AD save

I was considering that question, and while it wouldn't violate the letter of the variant, it might violate the spirit...that being said, I have no problem :)

pdescobar, let's take care of this Carthaginian menace :)

Ok, here's what I see happening:
We should take out all of the coastal Carthaginian cities, and then as part of the peace get those two cities up on the island to the NW. Then we take out the Celts (all but two are coastal), then mop up the two remaining coastal cities.

The reason I think we need to do this is because Persia has more room to grow than we do, and if they decide to take out the Aztecs, they may become powerful (we also might want to encourage the Ottomans to work against them). The NW island is important as it will be the staging area for an assault on Persia. (we can probably get Thessalonika from Greece for peace after we attack them again)

One mo' thang:

I tested making Peace with the Uticans ( :D ), and this is what I found:
of the four "colony" cities, they would accept a deal for Peace that included one of them...except for Oea. :hmm: There's probably a resource that we can't see there...lousy cheating AI...

Hmm, ok. Beat on Carthage and extort as many of their land cities as I can, with priority to the NW island. Then start to beat the celts down to probably just the capital since I think it's land-locked and will not be an option for trade. I think I can handle that. I may not get it played for a few days, though.

1 mo' thang:
Make peace with Carthage and wait a turn or two before fighting the Celts (or enough time to get troops in position); we need to get that War Weariness diminished before we go in again, especially since the Celts have more cities (we may end up fighting them, taking some of their cities, finishing up Greece, then finishing up Celts, but we'll see...)

ChrTh, I agree with you that we have to wait. But not for war weariness. You have war weariness from the war vs Carthage and Greece. This ends once peace is made. So if we would get into war with Greece again before the 20 turns of peace are over, we'll have war weariness again. We did fight the Celts a long time ago. That war weariness is already gone.

I'd say wait a bit to heal and position the troops.

@Aggie, ah ok, I thought War Weariness was cumulative across opponents, not only tied specifically to one opponent

Update: I'll be playing this morning/afternoon EDT

EDIT: Make that definitely this afternoon as I just found out I need to help my uncle open his pool this morning...
