Ok, I've been having a little difficulty deciding on what the Cubans' UU should be. You may have noticed by my constant questions I've been teeth-pulling here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10535

Here are descriptions of the options:

MIG 29
Upgraded from: Jetfighter
A/D: 8/5
B/R/F: 2/6/1
Movement: +1 then Jetfighter
Cost: 100

GUERILLA
Guerrillero (Own unit)
Get it: Nationalism
A/D/M: 1/3/2
Abilities: Destroys ground improvement (twice per turn)
Cost: 20
Weapon: Machete
Upgrades to:
Modern Guerilla
Get it: Modern
A/D/M: 3/4/2
Abilities: Same as before, +1 defence in jungle
Cost: 40 (requires: saltpeter)
Weapon: Tommy gun

BOTH
This would allow Cuba to have both units available to only them. Of course, there would have to be a downside to chosing the Cubans to even this advantage out. If you chose both, then reply with a disadvantage.

OTHER
If you have a better idea, tell me about it.
 
I think this makes a fair deal:

Cost for the standard guerrillero: 20 or 25 shields

Modern guerrillero................. 40 shields (requires saltpeter)

A 10 shields guerrillero it´s to much... imagine dozens of them entering in your territory and destroying all of your hard earned improvements... :cry:
 
How does this sound:

The Cubans have both the Guerilla and MiG's, but are dissallowed Riflemen and everything it upgrades to. This would be a dissadvantage because they would not have guns until Modern ages when Modern Guerilla is available.
 
In that case the guerrilleros should be 10-15 shields a piece... or the cubans will be very weak on early stages of gunpower...
 
Ok, Mikoyan. What do you suggest as a dissadvantage that would even-out Cuba having 2 special units?
 
Guerrilleros should only be available when one of your cities has been captured by your enemies, kind of like in Civ2, they will consist of enraged citizens, and appear around the captured city.
They will then do whatever you wish them to do, sabotage, assasination of great leaders (large chance of failure), or underground propaganda spreading in the nearby areas.
 
Wow... that's pretty detailed... is this possible in the first place, and how?
 
Guerrilla its an step before a real army, of course... but cubans fights with "guerrilleros" from the year 1879 to this days... they made progress in the late 50s, but they were a very politically violent country allways.

To this days cuban citizens knows the ways of guerrilla warfare (they teach that in cubans schools), just in case.

But those abilities (propaganda, sabotage, assasination) are more likely for urban guerrilla, a terrorist or a spy. I was talking of a field guerrilla. It´s of course a really nice idea but there has to be some kind of equilibrium..

This is very much possible, take the french resistance movement in WWII as an example, this was too a form of Guerrilla.
This is mainly what they did, along with some other stuff.
The propaganda will get more peasants and citizens to form more guerrilla groups, and possibly, even force the hostile forces to retreat. Do not forget that the Guerrilla is a peasant militia, and not the navy SEALS, though. ;)
 
I meant possible in the game.

I wish I could make it so in order for Saltpeter and Oil to work, the Cubans HAVE to trade for it... even if they have it in their borders or colonies. That would be a big enough dissadvantage to have both units.

I dunno... but that is not a lot to ask... sounds posible.

I think Cuba's special unit should be an improved spy, better success and low price to corrupt enemy units. Hell those Cubanna Seductress Spies are so hot, I will pay THEM to corrupt me.

Just check the civ3 editor... I dunno what is NOT posible!?
 
Since there is already 1 Jetfighter UU in the game (ie American's F-15), I chose the guerilla.

But recently somebody suggested we use SAMs as a defence against planes. They were really effective, we can just replace a normal fighter or jet fighter and made it really strong on offence. It should work the same as a fighter (and should work after the patch, air superiority should work, right?) except that it gets destroyed after use.

Just my 2 cents :)
 
yeah, i suggested Cuba's SAM 2's that protected the Soviet Nukes during the Cuban Missile Crisis, but it didn't seem to go over very well. The Guerilla looks to be pretty popular...

I probably will forget about the MiG 29 idea and make Sam's, while dropping some upgrades like Stealth Fighter from the Cubans to even out the advantage.
