Is near impossible. Maybe not impossible, but it takes huge amount of time to get 50,000 culture in one city, let alone 3. I just spent one game trying to get a cultural victory and all I could get was 13,000 culture points in my first city until my game crashed (heh) That took me about 2 hours too

What's the fastest way to get huge amounts of culture?

Three ways:

- Philo leader, create GP farm, run caste system, create lots of artists, settle early ones and culture bomb later ones.

- Industrious leader - build every single wonder rotating the build across three cities.

- General (esp good for financial) - build lots of towns in three cities and drop science slider to 0, raise culture slider as high as possible.

With all three the key is getting at least three religions, spreading to at least nine cities and building three (or more if possible) cathedrals in your three culture cities. That and running liberalism gives you tons of culture.

As with any victory you have to focus on a strategy leading to it. Just building a couple of culture buildings, when you happen to have a free hammer, and waiting does not work.

You need multipliers: Catherdals form differetn religions - +50% culture each - you want multiple in every of the 3 cities.
Later in the Game also Hermitage +100%, which i usually put in my weakest of the 3 cities to help it catch up.

Its a bit hard to get a cultural Victory from buildings only. Other sources are Specialists (Artist, obviously) and Slider (After Drama, you want to start putting commerce into culture - as much as you can afford it - just dont fall behind to far, or the AI will steamroll you)

Late game there are also corporations - often dedicated Culture games are won before you tech the prereq's however. Sushi, cre.Constructions and Jewellers are not competing (can be in the same city) and can give you lots of culture.

Had an incredibly frustrating game last night. I had conquered my continent on Prince and had at least 2 dozen size 18 cities. Way high on the power graph and was waiting for my spaceship to reach alpha centauri. I forgot to check the victory conditions and was so complacent destroying other civ's spaceparts with my huge spy network. I was just rushing through each turn just to see the space victory where lo and behold Mansa beat me with a cultural victory by 2 turns. Yes he was same lvl of tech with me but he only had 6 large cities in total. But he had founded Sid's sushi and creative constructions and in hindsight he had half of the wonders.

Of course, if i had been more alert, and i had known he was so close to a cultural victory I would have taken him out with my idle armies. I believe this is the main reason why I cant improve beyond prince.

lesson learnt
Cultural victory = 3-4 wonders in your city, sid sushi and something creative in each city

Try building The Sistine Chapel and run a State Religion.

Try building your state religion buildings as soon as possible. 1000 years after building a structure, its culture gets doubled and this includes any bonuses like the one from The Sistine Chapel. That's 26 culture/turn from just a Temple and Monastery, which you can build anywhere as long as you have the techs.

A 1000 year old Cathedral also adds 10 culture/turn on top of the +50% bonus. A 1000 year old Holy Shrine even adds 18 culture/turn, before any multipliers.

Talking about multipliers, be sure to run Free Speech as soon as possible (+100%), focus building Cathedrals in your three main culture cities (+50%/Cathedral), build Broadcast Towers whenever they're available (+50%) and perhaps take a shot at Broadway, Hollywood and Rock and Roll if it's late in the game (+50% each). There is also the Hermitage national wonder (+100%). Getting +250% culture in your main cities isn't that hard.

Then there's corporations like Sid's Sushi Co., Creative Constructions and Civilized Jewelers adding culture per resource in your posession. Trade for more instances of these resources to maximize the cultural output of these corporations. The other bonuses (food and production) from these corporations also help you achieve your victory (more specialists and more buildings).

And of course, specialists, the culture slider and production converted to culture, etc. ;)

I'm sorry, but cultural victory is the easiest of all the victories possible.

Tech to liberalism, switch to Free Speech, run one hundred percent culture, hit end turn about a hundred times. You'll win by eighteen hundred or so.

If you turn permanent alliances on, instead tech to Communism and sign a permanent alliance before going complete culture.

Cheers,

Dai

If you're pushing a good date for a cultural victory, pavilions and corporations will never come in to play. Check out the HOF logs for the cultural games of jesusin and wastintime. They are very educational.

The basic keys are 1: cottage the capital and place as many cathedrals + hermitage there. 2: get a GP farm with NE running ASAP once literature is in. You will want to spawn 12-14 GA over the course of the game. 3: Don't contribute GP pollution; skip any wonder that doesn't spawn GA unless you can keep that city from creating a GP.

You can cottage your second and third legendary cities, or you can run GP farms and bomb the GA in to those cities. If all goes well, your capital should be pushing 700-1000 cpt at the end of the game and should hit legendary on its own (FS + 100% culture slider). Then it's just a matter of bombing the GA's accordingly to get the other cities to legendary.

If you're having a hard time, try playing on quick. GA bombing is much more effective at that game speed.

Culture victories are pretty easy and fun. There are many ways to get them and you can use all of the following or none. You need a little planning from the beginning, but can play peacefully and diplomatically, or as the war-monger (providong your three cities still focus on culture). Also the HOLY SAL RPC game I played was a culture victory where I never ran an artist specialist or got a Great Artist.

1) Religion: Get one, found a few. The more you have in your empire the stronger it is for a cultural victory. Build Monestaries ASAP, you need 9 total cities with temples of each religion in them. The start building Catherdrals in each.
2) Artists: Run the caste system civic and run alot of artists. Generate alot of great artists in your GP farm, use them for culture bombs in the cities. The free Great Artist from Music helps but not worth getting yourself killed by neglecting military, do it if you can defend yourself.
3) Corps (BTS). Sid's Sushi and creative constructions. Get alot of those resources from AI trades or conquer them. You only need three corp branches.
4) Culture slider. When to turn it up to 100% (or as much as your economy will support) depends on how save you are militarily. Doing it pre-scientific method get's it faster but open you up to modern military. Waiting for tanks/flight will be enough to protect you but delays things.
5) Wonders. They help alot, build them. Parthanon, SoZ, Sisten Chapel help alot. The late wonder are very helpful (electricity/radio/MM) but only if going towards tanks. Don't get radio and neglect industrialization.
6) Cottage. Built lot's of them in your three cities. The more commerce the larger the return when you up the culture slider.
7) Leverage the national wonders and civic best. Caste system is better than democracy if you have mature cottages and have upped the slider to 100%. Pacificism helps get the GA's if you can afford the military costs. Free Speech is a no brainer. Free Market get's you an extra trade route and more commerce for the slider which is better than Mercantilism and it's no foreign trade routes.

Any of the above can be eliminated except 4 and 7, but all together get the job done faster.

If you play vanilla (to do the CS sling), then you won't have access to UB's. The CS sling lets you get to liberalism faster so I think most of the top culture times were played with vanilla.
