Howdy C4CC folks, another month or two has poassed, meaning that its time for me to come up with another half-baked mod idea I'll have to later abandon to work on my thesis!! Well, hopefully, this one will be simple enough to mod and, with a little help, I may even get this one off the ground :crazyeye: SO without further ado, here's a brief overview of my idea for

Culture Exporters

This idea came about as an amalgm of the ideas I had for my ideologies mod (see my sig), the need for further religious diversity in Civ 4 (without actually adding more religions), and my personal beleif that religions are benign by themselves, and dangerous and corrupt in the hands of religious institutions. Solution to the problem: allow players to build religious institutions specific to certain ideologies to influence your own populace and your neighbours.

An example: Christianity has spread all across your continent, and your neighbour owns the founding city. You, however, are the first to discover Divine Right, meaning that you can build the Vatican. The vatican by itself doesn't do much more than a regular wonder, except for one thing: it allows the building of Catholic Scholars. These units acts exactly like missionaries, but instead of spreading religions, they can build a Catholic Church in any city that has christianity as a religion. Indeed, the only way to build a catholic church is with a scholar, and the only way to build a scholar is with a catholic church, unless of course, you're the first to have built the vatican

Catholic Churches have three main functions: they add to the culture of the city, they allow the city to build Catholic Scholars to export the relgion further, and add one happy face if the city's ruler has the Organized Religion civic in effect (an possibly an unhappy face if another civic, say paganism, was in effect). Also, the church subtracts on gold from the city's production and rereoutes in to the city that contains the Vatican to simulate tithes, and creates one unhappy face should that city's ruler go to war with you, since you have the vatican.

In this way, you can take a religion that has already overrun your empire, build an insitution to suit the civic choices you would like to follow, and export that to any other empires nearby that you have open borders with, improving your relations by inticing them not to declare war on you and choose the civic favoured by the sect.

Most of the institutions I have in mind are religious specific (i.e. Sufism in Islam, Catholocism in Christianity) but most religions would have several institutions. In addition, there could be ones that require no religion (Cult of Ra). require more than one religion to be present itn the city (i.e. Sihkism in cities tha have both hinduism and islam), and maybe other that have nothing to do with religions at all (communism, facism, liberalism, etc). Whatever way, the point would be to induce changes in your neighbours without having to go to war or bribe them, but instead influencing thier populace.

I have a ton of ideas for this in my head, but little time to organize them at present (!!!). right now I would be happy just to hear overall impressions, suggestions, and maybe even volunteers..?
