Culture from killing barbs ignored

Ok maybe I'm going insane but it really looks to me that the culture from killing barbs after opening the Honor (Honour) tree does not add to the global culture count.
I still get the magenta coloured +# rising up from the hex after killing the barb but the culture counter remains unchanged - even after beginning a new turn.
Anybody has seen this happen? Am I missing some other prerequisite to get he culture?

Check your number before attacking... the CPU will often compute your new culture BEFORE you attack, not after the animation is complete. This frustrated me to no end in vanilla.

No problems here. Easiest way to check is take note of your total culture before you launch an attack you know will finish an enemy, and then see what the score is after he dies. In my game it adds it as soon as the killing attack is launched, so it's already added to the total by the time the attack move is complete and the purple +# rises into the air.
