Cumulative Football Quiz #6

OK. Which is currently the highest placed club in the English leagues who have had to gain promotion to the football league ?

Wycombe Wanderers.

edit:oops - didint read current position.

Colchester?

I don't really understand the question since surely promotion into the football league started very early on given that teams have to come from somewhere.

True.. I was surprised to hear the team is from League One.

Huddersfield Town or Southend?

EDIT: I think I understand.. highest placed in its own league.. so if the #1 placed from League 2 had to gain access to the football league, he's ahead of the #16 of the premier league if he'd have the same status?

It is Colchester, and promotion into the Football League from the conference was only initiated in 1987.

Other teams joined the league, for sure, but then the question would be who is the highest placed team other than the original founding teams, and the answer would immediately be Chelsea.

If you include the election (not promotion) process which operated from 1962 or thereabouts, the answer (I think) would be Wigan.

PS Willem, no, that's not what I meant. I meant all of the premier league would be above the Coca-Cola Championship (the second tier of English football), who all in turn would be above the League One teams (the third tier).

I'll chip in with a question if nobody minds :)

Which country won the very first World Cup in 1930?

Hope your exam went well Dell
