I accidentally added Japan twice to my custom game. I wonder, bug or feature?

Tokugawa is such a xenophobe, he doesn't even like himself.

For S&Gs, I created a custom game where all the civs were Japan. I didn't try to play it, but I imagine it would be confusing. :crazyeye:

I can imagine the problem:

Tokugawa is annoyed with you (Which F******* one???)

Tokugawa declares war with Tokugawa.

Tokugawa asks you for help in his war against Tokugawa.

Such and such has been built in Japan (oh, that narrows it down then!)

I don't think this is a bug - especially in MP you may want to have people playing the same trait combo. I wonder how the city names are solved though - if there are two Napoleons and their capitals are both named Paris, then it is a bug. If whoever founds his capital second gets Orleans (and so on) then I think it is pretty fine and allows for interesting game.

I think this is silly and should be disallowed. If they want Civs with two leaders to exist that's fine. You can have, for example, two Russias led by Catherine and Peter. Ugh! But not this!

As far as I can tell, there were no duplicate cities. Each Japanese city took the next name on the list. They even had different flags and colors. (I didn't play the 7 Japans game to see how that would have turned out.)

But since it was a Single Player setup, I don't see why they couldn't prevent it there. The fact that the list of selected civs scrolls makes it difficult to see it you have picked someone more than once.

Why should they?

Presumably, this only happens in custom games, which are for "advanced" players.

A sharp knife is more useful than a blunt one but you are more likely to hurt yourself with it if you don't know what you are doing.

Plus, if they did forbid it, don't you think somebody else would complain about not being able to play against six Tokugawas?

Since I usually play as Khemet (e.g. Egypt), I think this is a great feature in that you can play as Upper or Lower Egypt and Nubia (e.g. Kush).

A single player custom game is not the same as MP game or a mod. In a MP game or a mod the player names can be altered. As it is, the two Tokugawa players are indistinguishable on some screens. (See the pic in the first post for an example.)

They obviously made provision for MP or mods (city names, flags, colors, etc) but didn't consider the situation I ran into with single player. Something as simple as appending a player number to the name when there are dup civs would make the situation clearer.

Note: I don't "think" there was an option to rename but even if there were, I could still overlook it. In any case, this is a relatively minor thing. Now that I am aware of the possibility I can avoid a reoccurance.

Good analogy. Of course, if you are going to hand someone a sharp knife, you shouldn't hand it too them blade first. :mischief:

I actually wondered if this was possible, but figured it'd be more inetesting to see the dual-leader civs playing against each other. Or trying to take over baltimore as Washington while at war with FDR.

I wonder how the revolution bit would work, there... Hrmmmmm........

Later!

It's a feature. It's intended to end the (otherwise endless ;) ) 'It's my turn to be the Romans'-squabbles in MP, but there was no reason to disable it for SP.

I like it the way it is. It allows me to play as Catherine (she's creative and starts with mining for REX, AND financial for fast research after REX) and still include Catherine in the game (to see her slap the camera). :goodjob:

Ok, forget what I said. This was probably the real reason. ;)
