Customizing *.gif files

Hello All,

I played civ for a while but never wanted to customize my units or any other gif file. No I am looking for info on how to do it. Can I customize an existing terrain or units or I am stuck with only adding those extra slots provided. I am very new to this and any pointers would be very welcomed. I tried to search the forum but came up empty so far.

Yes you can change pretty much anything.Units,terrain,specials,city screen,wonders blah blah.
There are numerous "modpacks" ready to go.Modpacks often include some changes to techs and stuff but you can just use the graphics if you like.There are some here

My favorite is HiRes2.I don't see it there but you can find it here

You can also make your own or mix and match from different modpacks.
