Since I haven't posted here in a while, I though I might make a change in my maps. I have been experiencing hangup in the 360x360 maps so I might just do a world map of about 275x275 and then a Known World map that will cover Hule, the Savage Coast, the southern end of Denagoth, the Northern regions of Davania and the Western regions of Skothar. That map would be on a 180x180 map. The Wrath of the Immortals scenario will be done on that same map. Anyone got any other scenario ideas?

If not that will be the only scenario I do for this mod once I do the maps. That will make a total of 4 games with a random map game, a Mystara world map, a Known World map and the Wrath of the Immortals.

The unit list is huge and I'm trying to shrink it down a little. Once I finish with the list of units I will begin posting the lists and the unit graphic I will use for them. I will try to name the creator of the units I post, but since I won't take up server space wiht pics of the units I would just appreciate it if anyone who had made the graphic listed or knows who did could let me know when I have the lists posted.

The civ list may change for the different maps. I will make it all fit in one scenario folder though.

EDIT: I have decided to make a multiplayer version as well with only 8 civs. Many of the civs will be combined for this.

hi !

i'm a great fan of mystara. it was my first RPG experience, in 1984 i think, and i'm still playing the game. i was considering making a mod for Civ, but i have not enough time and skill for this. i can clear some free time to help u on specific subject if u want.

i can playtest (not a difficult task, but time consuming), if u need so

i can even mod a bit, with some guidelines.

...

your idea for gnomish aircraft is pretty interesting. Why not, with new C3C option, make a special wonder called Top ballista (Serraine) which will produce aircraft instead of Ancient Cav / Crusaders, for instance.

i'll go back reading this thread. c u later.

N.b. : i'm also a fan of DYP and Tethurkan mods, which really gives a new dimension to Civ.

That Top Ballista thing is a great idea. I hadn't thought of that. I will probably allow dwarves to build some air machine of their own, but that might be useful. I'm still unsure if I make air units really "air units" or do like they did in the DyP mods with Air Cavalry. At least with the airships anyways. The mounted animal like gryphons and eagles will be more like DyP's Air Cavalry. I'll get to that later. For now I'm still trying to manage tese civs together with their army and navy.

Play testers would be great! I'm trying to clear more time on my schedule to work on this mod, but there are so many things going on around the holidays. I would except play testers since I won't get to play it for a while after I finish because I already have plans on another mod after this one.

Other than that, I'm ok for now. Just need graphics. A website would be cool, but I don't know much about working them and I don't how committed I would be after I finish the mod. If its not to much trouble just pm me some ideas you might have for a site and I'll let you know what I think.

Just found this thread. I should keep up-to-date on the board a bit more often, I guess.

I've been wanting to do a Mystara mod too, but since I'll never get around to do it while involved in DYP, I just want to say that I'm exited to see this.

Let me know if I can lend a hand or two. I still have all my Gazeteers somewhere in the mess I call my apartment. :)

well

after toying with map editor (and attaching a file to a post ...), here is my fisrt sketch for a mystara map.

it is based on mystara almanach 1011. you see around thyatis here

map size is 256. strangely, part of the map disapears when i reduce size. i use bmptobic, a nice utility.

n.b. toundra = marsh for now

u can find the file on my webspace

http://blhoyez.free.fr/d&d/civ3/maps/sc/mystara1-thyatis.jpg (180 ko)

or on http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/mystara1-thyatis.jpg (some kind of file storage here it seems

or as an attachement, of smaller size (47 ko)

so here is with what i began.

i think it can be a good map for a scenario.

Don't forget that the south of the map is for a part thyatian territory, the north east alphatian contesting thyatian empire, the south east kind of asiatic people, the north west, theocracy of Hule (remember X10), the north having for his own our dear Shadow lord (ever played X11 ?), ...

Not seaking of Glantri, Darokin, Ylaruam, Rockhome, Alfheim, et tutti quanti

well here is a small detail of the map

The famous Lake Amsorak, one of its ruins, the city of Akesoli (the barb camp) and the 2 lake border fortress.

Source is obviously Darokin Gazeeter. Because of the scope of this actual map, it s rather difficult to really put forest, grasslands, rivers the way they are presented. For forested hills, i assume one forest, next to one hill. The result is (seems) a bit random.

Another map detail

Here is the Malpheggi swamp, Darokin city just north (the barb camp), Tenobar and Athenos at each end of the marsh (goody hut).

It's not exactly the way it is in Gaz 11 (at least for the sea side), but the essential is present (the 3 rivers and the woods). I wish we could put a few lizardmen barbs :-)

The placement of rivers is rather tricky. Have to really pinpoint the good square grid side, and clik until something decent appears.

well, if some of u could give me a bit of feedback, i would appreciate.

c u later

Very nice maps. Those will be good for the scenario I was planning. I will welcome every scenario or map made for the mod, once I'm done. Unfortunatly the holidays are taking me away from my home pc which has all my mod info and I don't have that laptop quite yet. This will be a slow process till after the new year.

You know those are really good. I like your maps and would welcome them. You think you could do a world map of Mystara as well that would be around 275x225? I like your attention to detail and I think by the time I get to map making I'll be to impatient to put it together properly. You don't have to put any cities or resources, but you can keep putting the city placement with those barb camps. I like that as a good reference and it will help me with the scenarios and mods I was planning. :goodjob:

No prob for making (nearly) any maps u need for mystara.

This one is just a first try. today i'll finished Hule, great waste and Sind.

The (map) editor is not so well done. it seems to lack such feature as area cut & paste, or resizing map to add space (on the edge).
i'm wandering in many threads to find tips, or ways to better use it, but i think the main solution is to carefully plan the map and its geographical limits before beginning to build it (it seems obvious, i know).
for example, on this map, i will have probs with making Glantri, Ethengar, ... , all that is north egde of the map. i haven't let enough space i think.

This test map is size 256. so i see no prob for a 275. tell me what area u need to be done, then i'll make a sketch for u to better see if it's the way you were imagining it.

c u later.

I'll get out my camera and take a pic then doctor it and upload it to show you what I would need for each map. I will get on that when I get home. Today I will get to work a little onmy mod and I can do that as well. I've been meaning to do that anyway. I'll post the map and list any details of which I would need.

On second thought I will have to just try and describe to you what I need for maps.

1) War of Wrath scenario: 275x225(or around that size)
I need a map like the one you are posting above, except a little further north to include Norwold. As far south as the city-states in Davania (to have Kastelios and the clans down there). And as far east to cover the Esterhold Peninsula and a little of the shores of Skothar so I can have Jen included. I will also need the Alphatian continent before 1004 when it was between the Isle of Dawn and Skothar. The Western end is far enough over since you are able to fit Hule and the Savage Coast in. It would be real helpful if you spot cities like you have been so it will be faster for me to locate and put actual cities there. It doesn't matter if you put morethan the limit, since the cities I don't use will be turned to goodie huts.

2) A Complete World map of Mystara: 300x250(at the most)
THis is just a world map to inlude every continent and island that you can while making it resemble Mystara as much as possible. Don't worry about cities for this as I haven't decided what civs to use for it. Many of the ones in the War of Wrath scenario will be replaced with others in Davania and Skothar so Brun isn't so crowded.

I will try to get those pics up of the area I need, but there are no gaurantees how soon. The maps don't have to be perfect since I will doctor them a little with resources, city placement, and LM terrains which I will rename and make new terrains out of. For example LM Plains will become Steppes and hopefully the LM Hills can be turned to Broken Lands or Wastelands. Ony time will tell. I may combine some graphix of various terrain mods to get the efects I need. :hmm: I'll have to do some playing around with that.

hi !

here is detail of the Hule area, around Khuur. The road to Darkwood & Master temple is on the west edge. Thx to X4, i could put the exact emplacement of the master hideout. But it won't be on this (test) map.

For your map request, it's ok, but you will have to let me some time cause i need to make a good brush. i also need to practice a bit more.

For map 1, i would appreciate a visual shot / sketch, cause i'm not sure to understand where to stop (for instance, on west edge, do i stop at hule west frontier (lake Tros), or do i stop in the yazaak steppes ? for north edge, as Norwold is rather a vast place, give a town for limit (landfall / oceansend - for the south of Norwold ; or do i go until i reach Alpha ? u don't want me to go as far as Frosthaven, pliz )
for south edge ok i see

I will have to merge different map sources for the brush. Well, i've an idea. we'll see.

For map 2, well, i see no prob. In fact, as we have far less information and due to the scale, it won't need any particular accuracy.

here is another shot

This is The great waste between Hule and Sind. U also see Sind.

I'm not realy satisfied by the way it looks. Sind does not feel right. On the original map, the landscape is a bit special, but here it seems wrong to me.

that's incredible how much time i've lost making the mountains / hills - forested hills, with all these rivers. I've constated a scale problem also. Nothing dramatic, but a small distortion due to the way my original sketch was converted in a biq file i assume. Well, it's a test.

this map also shows probs for special terrain like badlands (i use pollution) and broken lands (i use craters). there is still rocky hills, for which i kept civ hills, until better.

LM would be appreciate. I've already found the LM chasm, interesting for Thar area i think, but not reaaly suitable for this place.

If you find one (or some one to make one) ... tell me

I agree Sind is lacking. But there are limits with a game that doesn't have more realistic terrains. The ones they have are good, but they are missing so much compared to Call to Power II. That game had terrain. This one has better graphix and more options in the editor.

That map you posted would be about right as the scenario map, Ill try to get a pic up soon. I have a world map and I will mark it for you when I get it up. It may not be as clear as yours, but you will be able to see the land masses and what I would need.

BTW: Don't mean to rush you. Take your time, I prefer quality over quantity and I'm trying to pace myself especially since I barely have time on the computer these days. I'm taking a lot of notes by hand till I get that Laptop.
