Stupid damn patch.

-sighs-

Well, looks like it's back to v1.17 for me.......

I see a new pause also. It's at the end of the turn, not at the beginning during the AI movements. The hourglass comes up for about 3-5 seconds, then I can finish up. If I then wake up a new unit and move it, and it's the end of turn again, another 3-5 second wait. Hmmm...

Angelic_Tyrant, no way. The game was standard size map, and only 5 enemy civs. I don't play any larger because then in the later stages the turn waits become too long (longer than 30 seconds). Only 5 enemy civs, and only a standard size map! And now with v1.21 I wait 5 seconds between turns from the very beginning!

Sanaz, exactly, I noticed that too. It's REALLY annoying. I'm used to almost instantaneous turn waits up until about 2000 BC of the game. This is just too much. :(

Now I'm left trying to find a download link for v1.17. Anyone know where I can find it?

Bottom line: p-o'ed.

Do you have auto-save on?

1.21 f apparently compresses save games alot more...thus if you have auto-save on such compression will cause delay.

If you don't have auto-save on then I'll keep thinking, jumping to the immediate conclusion that the "pause" is for no good reason is probably mis-guided.

Though I could be wrong...

Auto-save, eh? I'm not even sure what that is. :o

Please explain?

Ahh, that's what I thought it was.....where is the option to toggle it on and off? In the preferences menu?

But still, if it saves every 5 turns, why do I get a delay at the end of EVERY turn?

I believe you misunderstood. The auto save feature actually saves every turn, it just displays the last five. From what I understand, it just overwrites the saves to keep it at the last 5 turns.
When you are loading up a game, usually at the top of the list is an 'auto' folder. Open that and your auto saves are there.

The compression feature Firaxis added, in my opinion, is splendid. While it may add a few seconds to your turns, it also saves a ton of hard drive space. Some fine soul attached a pic of the file size difference between the compressed and the standard saves the other day - it was huge.

WHat game we talking about lol? I'm talking about the ones I play with the max number of civs on a large map. The turns take 2 mins plus, but I am prepared to wait that long for the benefit of having more civs:egypt:

General Tacticus & D. Boon's Ghost, you were right. It was the auto-save that was slowing my game down. I disabled it and now my turn waits are back to normal. Thanks guys. :)

Angelic_Tyrant......

No way guy, I can't stand long turn waits, that just kills the fun for me, as far as I'm concerned.......I like to keep it small, that way the maximum turn waits, even in the modern era, are still less than 30 seconds.

Anyways, bottom line, the problem is solved, thank you for all your help. :goodjob:

good find guys - its too bad that the compression couldn't be turned off for autosave only -

that way autosave could be left on and you could save a bunch of seconds(5 times number of turns) per game...

Nobody here would mind the five 2 meg files that autosave creates - right?

I agree that the compression feature should have been an option. What bothers me more than the delay is that the music skips at the end of every turn - very irritating. As far as disc space is concerned, 10 megs isn't very much and certainly not worth the performance hit. Originally (circa 1.07) ALL the autosaves were kept indefinitely, and over a 400 turn or so game well, you do the math. But this isn't a problem anymore since Civ3 automatically deletes the saves after five turns.

Something tells me this wasn't a problem with the uber-leet computers the beta testers were using - ho hum.

That was it, thanks! I never put together the new compression feature with the delays. Turned off auto-save, and am back to normal.

I would rather disable compression (if it were an option), because I have tons of disk space but the delays drive me nuts (I have a reasonable P3 850MHz and 512MB RAM, so I hate to think what it would do to a computer a few years older than mine)!

Kilroy, you're lucky, I can't even play the game with the music on, if I do it just skips into an endless loop every time something else happens (like when you build a unit, that noise will just loop and throw the whole thing out of whack). I need a faster computer.....;)

This is really proof of Firaxis' disdain for all of us.

We've complained for months about the slowness of the game.

So (spitefully?) Firaxis MAKES THE GAME SLOWER!!!

Back to 1.16 for me, maybe. 1.17 I despised.
