Data error when loading multiplayer games

I have the following problem when loading multiplayer Civ 3 Conquests 1.22 games while playing with my friend:

When he is hosting the game, after he picks the savegame, the game starts to load on my computer, but then crashes with a few data errors. After that it seems to continue loading, only to go back to the main menu and freeze.
Meanwhile, on his computer everything was working fine.

Same thing happened when I hosted the game - this time it crashed on his computer with the same messages. We've tried this on different occasions with different savegames and nothing helps. When we just play a multiplayer game everything is okay, but whenever we want to save&load it is impossible.

The funny thing is, everything was ok as long as we had version 1.00. Problems have started once we upgraded to 1.22. Does anybody know what could be wrong? I'd be grateful for any help, otherwise we would have to go back to playing 1.00, but then we couldn't play with anybody else.

Did you start it before 1.22? If so, then the save isn't compatible.

No, we started and saved games in 1.22 as well. No multiplayer savegames work at all - we tried starting new games, just to save and test if they load - no success.

Could the data errors be "DataIO operation System Error: DATE/PLGI/CNSL"? I recognize the type of problem but maybe this is a different one. Thing is ainwood is working on my prob too and maybe we cuold coordinate if it's the same glitch. Can you load files from the forum and can you load GOTM? I don't have any clues on how to slove this just asking to see if it's a similar prob.

We have had that problem quite regularly on the PBEM forum.

As Daghdha says it happens when you send/get by mail. The same save attached/downloaded from the forum works great so it might be related to your mail server/ISP/...

So I cannot tell you why it does not work but at least there is a way out.
