My daughter started middle school today (6th grade). She was very nervous (she'll be fine). When did I become a middle aged father of a pre-teen? I suddenly feel rather old. She's damn near as tall as I am, too. Time flies, my friends. Make every day count.

I'm with you, Leowind.

My stepson is also heading into the 6th grade and will have his first day of Middle School tomorrow (Sept. 5th). He's actually very excited as some friends will be in the same class as he.

I know, my situation is slightly different in that he is my stepson rather than my own, but he is going to the same school I went to as his age and the memories have come flooding back. And he really has become like my own son - I sure feel like he is. I guess in a way we have a chance to view youth through another's eyes and enjoy all that they see. As long as we don't try to live our own again vicariously, I could not imagine a nicer experience.

Very true words, Kev, and a good reminder to enjoy these years in our kids' lives. That's a balancing act to enjoy life with our kids, yet allow them to develop their own life at the same time. Prayers and best wishes to you and your son this coming year.

...And to you and yours, Leowind.

And good luck when your daughter comes to you and asks to go to her first dance with a boy....

Indeed she'll be fine......the middle school will go fast for her too. This is my 4th year, but I can remember day #1 as if it were yesterday. As for you.....maybe you wanna talk to my parents?

The 'fun' comes, Leowind, when your daughter reaches the age of 12 and begins her next school year. I have noticed without fail in England that girls quite abruptly lose their sense of humour then. Don't worry... they usually get it back... eventually... when they're around 18 or sometimes much older! I've seen all three of my daughters go through this cycle. It can get a bit lonely in those years.

I see I have a long way to go.

I don't even want children! I might want to some day (or my girlfriend's biological clock will start ticking

), but for the moment I enjoy the years of study. Pedro knows all about that!

Anyway, hearing Stormerne's story, you're just at the bottom of something, Leowind. I suggest: make yourself useful for her.

I dig what you saying Leo and stormerne. Although I have no children of my own, I've watched my brother's kid grow up before me in the blink of an eye. It seems like only yesterday that I was seven years old and my brother and his wife had a kid. Now my neice is thirteen and entering the...stage. Once a little girl, now a teenager, soon she'll be a woman. Man, that absolutly frightens me...and it probably frightens my brother too.

It's not so bad, I guess. I was the same way when I went throught the stage. Now I look back and realize just how much of an ******* I really was. It almost makes me want to apologize to my parents...almost.

I don't have kids either, but I have a precious little niece aged 11, who also started middle school this year. She started back in mid-August. She, too was nervous, wondering would school be hard this year, but my sister has reported that she is doing just fine.

Gosh, don't kids grow up so fast?!? It seems like yesterday, when I was holding newborn nieces and nephews in my arms....I can only imagine what the parents feel like.

I'm in 8th grade. Let's hope your kids don't go to school with me, I make the lives of anyone younger than me into living hell, but I do restrain myself, of course. I only taunt cool and popular 7th and 6th graders, because it can't hurt them as much!
-"Hey, are you in 7th grade?!"
yeah
-"Well seventh graders are gay!"

I'm uh...15...ha-ha, and despite all of the 20/20 stories, I do *NOT* have a child going into middle school
wink.gif

It happens to all of us. 9th graders make dumb insults about me because I play tennis, and I make fun of 7th graders because they're gay.

They do grow up far too quick, don't they Leo? I hope everything go's well with her.
Peace,
Simon.

Time flies, my friends. Make every day count.

My daughter starts her 1st year at the University of Texas this year (sigh).

Well, I'll be a while before my kid is going to middle school. First I have to finish my study, then talk to my wife/girlfriend at that time, then it has to be born, and then it'll take another 12 years.........conclusion: earliest in 20 years I can talk to you as an equal on this matter........

I can't agree more on the 'time' topic. I remember my first day of grade 8 VIVIDLY, just like it was yesterday, or even this morning
wink.gif
and now I'm in grade 11 and my teachers are using words like 'scholarships', 'early entry' and 'taxes'! And then I think of everything that I didn't do, or that I was afraid to do over the last 3 years and it just depresses me.

But I still hate math. No nostalgia there

(Oh, and we're on the K-7, 8-12 system. No middle school in Hicktown.)
