dd2 - "The resourceless Commander"

Only by looking at the .jpg, I would suggest to move our exploring warrior back 1 step north and block the ishtmus, until a second exploring unit arrives. This will prevent the Aztecs from exploring and we can hope to find a lot of land and maybe civs in the southwest.:goodjob:

And we should settle the hills west of Calcutta southeast of the iron mountain. And the hills beween Madras and Oil Springs / Allegheny to get access to the floodplains.

Eric, try This one

tao, the Iros have a scout about two steps ahead of our warrior. He went zipping by as I approached the choke. We would need two warriors to block it, which might be a very good idea.

Since you ask: ;)
  1. Madras is working jungle instead of mined grassland; very very bad
  2. Lahore is working forrest instead of mined bonus grassland; very bad
  3. 5 workers are mining north of Karachi; 3 would be just as fast and the other two should already be east of Karachi to build road; bad
  4. 2 workers plus slave are roading north of Lahore; 1 plus slave would be just as fast and the other should already be roading towards Jaipur; bad
But our Civ is strong; good. :)

I have put 4 dots in the screenshot as potential next city sites (did not check RCP values):
    1. red as next city for high food/yet another worker factory
    2. green next to get a coastal fresh-water site with the iron mountain for high shield production
    3. light blue and blue as other fresh-water sites
Actually, I think Gengis was referring to his non-use of a capitol "T" in your name.

The misuse of workers is my fault. I will go back and make note of your points and learn from them.

Do we want a city down near the choke?

Actually I was reffering to the fact that I didn't write Tao that time. But very good points still!

[edit] Wow bugsy, you're quick!

Sorry, didn't get it. But what is a capitol "T" ? ;)

They may look minor, but especially in the Ancient Age, every small bit counts.

We can't block the choke, because the respective tile is a mountain. Thus a warrior should suffice for now. Maybe later a fortress with spears, but the effort may not be worth it.

Sorry. I meant the spelling of your name Tao versus tao. The first version begins with a capitol or uppercase "T".

Is Tao your real name or your callsign? Or is it with reference to "the path" in chinese?

tao is my callsign and your capitol is Washington. And please don't write tao with a capital "t". ;)

Excellent point tao. Nothing like being shown your lack of command of your own language by a non-native speaker.

What do you call a person who only speaks one language? (and can't spell!!) ..... American

I am very sorry but I am going to have to drop out of this one. With all the things going on right now, and my being in 5 Sgs, one had to go. And, by chance, the roll of the die said this on would be the one. I will come back to this SG and lurk when I have the time. Sorry for this. Hope it all goes well.

Sorry to see you go andvruss. :(

I'll advertise for a replacement.

So here's our roster now:

Gengis
Eric
Bugsy
tao (Playing now)
gorm (On Deck)

I think with 5 dedicated players we're still pretty well off & don't need a replacement.

Pre-turn:
mm Madras, Lahore; research 90% monarchy in 12

710:
southern warrior attacked by barb horse -> wins
Hyderabad founded s spear
Japan has construction

690:
meet Chinese warrior/settler in the south (Aztecs already know them); get 35g, wm for alphabet; trade contacts before the Aztecs do it. Japan would give 180g, but has only 25. Hence we donate 110g and get 135g, wm for contact. Donate 50g to the others and get all their cash, wms back for contact. This improves their attitude toward us, which is not at all influenced by cheap deals, but by donations.

670:
Delhi archer s next
construction from Aztecs for literature, mapmaking, polytheism; 14g from Iroquois for wm

IBT:
Kyoto b Oracle, Berlin Colossus

650:
Bengal founded on RCP 7.5 s temple; writing to China for 25g; 25g from barb camp

630:
Delhi archer s settler; Kolhapur barracks s archer

610:
Jaipur worker s temple; pop-rush granary in Madras for 1 citizen

590:
Madras granary s settler

570:
Karachi worker s worker; silks connected; research to 80%

IBT:
Tenochtitlan b Pyramids; that puts the Aztecs very high on our hit list, immediately behind the Americans :)

550:
research 70%, monarchy next turn

530:
monarchy discovered; min research on currency; revolt

510:
Delhi settler (to settle green dot) s next; hurry temple in Bengal to claim wheat; literature to Iroquois for 24g, wm; trade maps

Summary and outlook:
We are on our way. We still have a warrior blocking the isthmus towards the Chinese, but they will arrive by ship sooner or later.

Watch Delhi and Madras to time settler production with growth. Bengal will build us many workers. America is easy prey, Aztecs promise rich rewards w The Pyramids. Start moving elite units south for the coming wars w America and the Aztecs. Let's hope for a Great Leader to build us Sun Tzu's. Build more archers and spears. A SOD w 10 archers and 5 spears should be enough for the first attack. Do not trade monarchy for cheap to the AIs, unless discovery by them is imminent; it gives us a unique bonus for now. If we are attacked by Japan or Iroquois, ally with the other and let them do most of the fighting.

The Save.

tao,
Donating cash to the AI and then getting it back from them was brilliant. How did you know how much they would pay for contact?

So the immediate plan is for a SOD of 10 archers/spears (probably 7/3 mix) to take out the Yanks? Then prep for the Aztecs.

It looks like that choke point to China is going to be critical to control. With the mountains it will be easily defended. We need to be the ones defending it. We don't want to have to fight through that choke point to get to Mao.

Oil Springs and Allegheny appear to fit into our RCP very nicely. So does Philadelphia. :D

Got it.

Immediate intentions:
(1) Settle a city at chinese choke.
(2) Prepare a war party against Am.

Will play after work.
