I beleive I speak for everyone when I see your comments are greatly appreciated. I for one know I don't know everything there is to know about this game(say that 3 times fast!), while you are very experienced in the early game & especially diplomacy. All your criticism is welcome........... unless its about me of course.;)

Oh yea, I gotta say again thanks for the smiley badge mod! Gotta be the greatest mod ever.

Yes, I have the feeling I'll learn a LOT before this is over. I'm working on my mm but it will take a while before I understand it well. The mood badges are great, they make it much easier.

Eric,

It is not just the mood of the pop that you have to watch. Read Tao's turn log and he comments on how I could have timed the production of a settler better. The more I play, the more subtleties I discover, and the more I learn. For example, I still haven't mastered a 4 turn settler factory.

This is sort of like a training day game.

For me it is very much like a training day game.

Thus what we need is rapid expansion. This requires us to optimize our resources. We should - if possible - mm out cities to make worker/settler production coincide w growth, get more growth or commerce the turn before finishing a unit, optimize distribution of tiles worked between cities.

I've been starting solo games to experiment with this. I have a lot to learn, but I see where sometimes you do have the chance to get a little more commerce or food and still get the build completed in one turn. Tiles worked between cities will be important since our cities are close together.

Yup I got it...will try to play tonight....

I got an emperor game I need to complete first.

Looks like once again you're up in 2 SGs at once. Just make sure you play this one first cause I'm next;)

Gorm-Up!
Me-On deck.
andvruss- On the bench.

2?

I'm in a huge modern war against Egypt and India in another Emperor game. I dun think I can play either SG tonight.

Summary:
Playing after Tao is very nice. I basically work more workers and settler + a few more war. For Delhi, after currently war, build settler so that you can get settler in 5 while growing at 5 as well.

Good turn in the Home Office, gormdragan. I am worried about our military situation. There are two Iroquois warriors next to Calcutta and the Iroqois do not want to sell us writing for 20gpt. I would pull both archers back home from the south. We need to reinforce our border cities. It is probably a very(!) good idea to buy writing and establish embassies (improves relations). Keep track (I always do screen shots) of the capital statuses.

With writing we can make military alliances and notice immediately once map making becomes available. Do you all know Moonsinger's legendary trading thread? A must-read!

I agree that getting writing is very impt. Bec we are so close to getting poly (in 4), I opted not to spend the $$$ for writing but to trade for it once we get poly (AI does not have it)

Also if you want to get writing, I suggest getting math from Jap @290(I hope it's still the same price after 1 turn)
trade to Am for writing(and 10gp if possible)
trade to Aztec for 75
trade to Iroq for 64

net 2 techs for about 150

Got it! I'll play tonight.

Pre-Turn check- Check on our RCP: Bombay 4. Madras 4. Karachi 4. Calcutta 7.5. Lahore 7.5. Bangalore 7.5.
Switch some tiles around & now Bombay has Pyramids due in 57 with same growth.
Buy Math from Toku for 256g.
Trade W & 11g for Math from Hiawa.
Sell M to Monty for 75g.

I would have done it your way gorm except Abe wanted M & 35g for writing, so now he gets nothing.

Establish Embassy with Iroquis. 1 pop, 2 sh/pt & 3 f/pt, working on worker, no improvements, 3 spears defending, & furs unroaded directly N of capitol.
Establish embassy with Aztechs. 4 pop, 9sh/pt & 2 f/pt, working on Pyramids(31!!), 2 spears defending, horses & diamonds.

*Grrrr!! We’re gonna get beat to the pyramids, they don’t have a granary so we’ll probably catch up a little in that. But its on a river so we won’t even luck out with them topping out at 6. Also they have 4 unused bonus grasslands. I’m gonna leave the Pyramids on though as a pre-build for GL.*

Establish with Japs. 4 pop, 8 sh/pt & 3 f/pt, Oracle(27), 2 spears, horses & wines.
Establish with Abe(pointless, I know, but it was only 15g). 2 pop, 3sh/pt & 2 f/pt, archer(2), 2 spears, horses & furs. Also unroaded iron N of capitol.
Another note ALL civs are putting 100% towards research.

IT- Iroquois declares war!! Calcutta captured after killing 1 warrior.:wallbash: Unfortunatly my priorities just shifted in these set of turns.

1- Veto Bangalore’s worker for a warrior.
Veto Dehli’s warrior for barracks.
Veto Madras’s worker for settler. (Sorry bout the vetos guys, this was unexpected & I’m trying to counter.)
Start moving troops up & out.

IT- Barb suicides on Lahore’s spear(no damage).

2- Found Kolhapor(4.0), starts on warrior.

IT- Bangalore: warrior >warrior
Lahore: warrior>warrior

3-

IT- Polytheism is learned I start on Lit(to take advantage of our pre-build. We can always trade Lit for Monarchy) at 70%, due in 12, 4 gpt. We can trade it to Toku(the only one that’s not broke), but I’d rather wait & trade it for a tech.

4- Archer kills barb camp & nets us 25g. Not much else, will arrive back in Calcutta in 2 turns.

IT- Iroquois warrior kills reg warrior.
Karachi: warrior>warrior

5-

IT- Delhi:barracks>archer
Kolhapur:warrior>warrior

6-

IT- Bangalor: warrior>worker

7- Calcutta is ours!! We lose a warrior & another is redlined taking it back though. >spear
Elite warrior kills warrior, but loses 1hp.

IT- People want the Forbidden Palace. Shut up & get back to work!!

8- Hiawa agrees to peace & pays us all his gold(68). I vote we wait 20 turns & wipe him out for the unprovoked attack.

IT- Delhi: archer>settler

9- I guess I missed a turn somewhere cause I’m at 1000be & that’s when I should be at 10. My turns were pretty counter-productive thanks to Hiawa’s sneak attack & me having to get our city back and build up a bunch of MUs.

*End of turn Report*
9gpt & Lit due in 5.
We’re up Poly on everyone. Up math also on Abe.

The SAVE!

Congratulations on re-conquering Calcutta! Now to my disagreements. ;)

IMHO it was a mistake to reseach literature. We should have finished monarchy first to boost our productivity and then do literature in time for the Great Library.

Delhi should build a vet spear for Calcutta before doing a settler. We want to build settlers the turn we grow to pop 7 for optimum efficiency. MM would speed growth by 1.

I don't like your worker assignments at all. Put them in gangs to finish tasks faster. Don't road 2 forrest in parallel, do them one after the other to reap benefit earlier.

Why do you mine the hill at Bangalore? Mining the plains takes half the effort and builds strategiy road towards the coastal horses site (we could settle the tile SE. with freshwater).

Madras should build a granary after the settler. I would never let the single worker task clearing jungle; it just takes too long. He should have helped building the mine. Clearing jungle should be done by a gang of 3 or 4 workers.

I suppose the wounded archer heads towards Bangalore?

We should restart exploring SW.

We should soon switch to building archers/spears instead of warriors.

We need barracks for our unit-producing cities.

So much to do ....... but we are on our way.

I agree with Tao. We are technically advanced. GL does not benefit us at all.

This was not my argument. Even aiming for the Great Library, we should have done monarchy before. Being a number of turns in monarchy before the AIs get it gives a great boost.

With the Great Library we can accumulate a large amount of cash for rushing improvements and later elephants.

PS: Just checked: we are wasting money because we needlessly run 10% lux.
