Okay, I've started my first succession game a few weeks ago, and it was a more or less straight up regent game. Now I wanted to try something to make things a little more interesting.

Version: Vanilla Civ3 v1.29
Map: Standard size, default settings, continents.
Rivals: 7 civs (random)
Us: India (reason will be made clear soon)
Difficulty: Regent or Monarch. When you join, tell me what you want to play on.

Special rules: No blatant exploits. Anything not allowed by GOTM exploit rules is not allowed here. Otherwise, we can do whatever. Now the big one: We are not allowed to connect strategic resources. If one appears in a square we've already paved, we must pillage the road. If one appears under a city, we must do one of two things: abandon the city, or pillage all roads connecting the city. This must be done ASAP. We are allowed to connect luxuries, and to work strategic resource squares, but they cannot be connected to our trade network. We may not trade for strategic resources.

Victory contitions: Conquest, Domination, or Cultural. Discuss.

Why India? Because IIRC, they have the best UU that doesn't require a resource.

Roster
Me
Up to 5 others

Any questions, ask me.

Edit: Okay, I can't spell. But I plan to start this game when I get back to college, so on I think Sept. 1, I'll post the save.

I'm ineterested in joining, but I might have to skip a couple turns, or mabye even drop out if things get too hectic at school in 3 weeks....

LOL! Wow this sounds like a very intresting variant. Sign me up, although if your trying to get a different squad just let me know.

We're starting to be the 3 amigos. Looks around for Ted;)

:lol::lol::lol:

I'd like to try too. This would be my 1st SG. I'm just starting to play Monarch on a regular basis, and I've been playing Conquest in the tournament. I just have vanilla 1.29 also. Either Regent or Monarch would work for me.

Given the variant, you had better be very quick conquering the world. If you can't (or don't want to) conquer everyone quickly, a culture victory may be in order. You'd want to go for that right from the start.

I think the team would need to set the target victory condition very early.

I'm glad there are still others with only vanilla civ. It doesn't matter to me if I play this variant or something simpler. I just want to try an SG game. I've been playing Monarch for a little while but I need to improve a lot. Hopefully a couple more people come along and want to join us, especially if they've played SG games before.

Looks like it would be best to win early and as soo as possible, because as it gets later in the game, we would certainly lose due to our units (all units need resoucres). If it was PTW, at least we could build guerilla, but vanilla is fine.

I would also be interested, because this is one of the rare 1.29 games (I'm playing on Macintosh).

About the rules: pillaging the connection to a resource/city may take some time. My interpretation of the intended restriction is:

We are not allowed to build any unit/improvement requiring a strategic resource. Correct?

IMHO the problem is not in conquering the world with elephants, the problem is that you can't prebuild horses to upgrade. Thus by the time elephants become available, you have to have a very good production capacity. Sun Tzu's would help, because all cities would produce veteran units. It would also be good to be the tech leader, aiming to get elephants before the AIs get knights/pikes.

All this calls for a very rapid early expansion, which shouldn't be too difficult on regent/monarch.

Either regent or monarch is fine with me. Although I think regent will more possible(as this will be a pretty difficult varient throughout all the ages).

Either regent or monarch would be fine with me. Let me make two suggestions:
  1. ultra early archer rush may be good for the first war;
  2. RCP at distance3(.5) with about 4 cities in the first ring might be a very good approach.
    [/list=1]

tao,
I like the early archer rush. Could gain us some extra dirt, before the world feels like it is superior to us.

I think we'll be forced into an archer rush. We're also gonna have to do some serious warmongering, as after everyone discovers steampower our production is shot!

We can also ONLY build warriors, archers, spears, catapolts & gallys in the AT. Longbows, WarElephants, Caravels, Galleons, & Explorers in the MA. Riflemen & artillary ONLY in the IA. And 0 troops in MA.

On top of this NO factories or railroads. We definatly have our work cut out for us. We need to make sure the game ends(or close to it) when we get our UU.

Thought I'd check in so you all know I'm still around. @dreamdeferred, do you have time to generate a start position and screenshot?
:wavey:

.........................Bump!

Any more opening for players?

Ok. I'm gonna take the initiative & make/start off if dream doesn't show up by tommarow afternoon. Dream hasn't reported in on the other SG we're in together so I think he's having some computer probs or something.

Gormdragan you're in too, I've never seen it being a problem with having too many people. Especially since alot of people tend to drop out.

Roster: Gengis(or dream??)
andvruss
eric2075
Sr Bugsy
toa
gormdragan
dream(hoping he'll get his connection fixed)

This large of a roster will ensure we get into some great discussions about pretty much everything from where to settle to when to attack. The more contributing a point of view the better.
