Well I had a game recently where Hiawatha expanded quickly then went on the warpath.

First he crushed Alex, then he took two of Napoleon's cities leaving the last for Sully.

He then gets in a dual war with both Monty and Wu Zeitan crushing Wu's cities quickly.

So there he is with almost 20 cities to my five. I just cannot complete with that and I would have move up to close to the top of the list since once he got done with Monty I would have had him on my northern, western & southern border.

Oh and once again I was limited to just two Iron and no horses.

I did have the 2nd biggest army but I can't complete with a 4-1 city ratio. He would have just out produce me.

It is irritating that if I even try to put a 6th city that my happiness goes to -10 or worst. If I go on the warpath it can also head in that direction as well.

So what do you do when another Civ becomes unstopable?

Get other civilizations to declare war on them with you, and pick up a few of their cities with the resources you want. You can get a reasonable early army 2 two swordsmen/longswordmen and a bunch of archers/crossbows.
Alternatively stop the game and start another one

It sounds like you're just assuming you will lose without actually trying it?

Take the opportunity to learn how to defend against larger forces. You should be able to hold him off with some good tactics. Remember, don't lose units, ever. It's entirely possible, good luck :D

Once you learn how to do this, you can join everyone else complaining about the bad AI!

Well the ones that were left were busy fighting each other so getting the other Civ's to help was out of the question.

Well I had a go at him before he took out Monty.

While I was killing more of his units but when he can out produce me it was only a matter of time before I could not stop him every where.

He had my huge northern border with him to attack across and I was still busy fighting him on my western and part of my southern border.

Plus we were both at the Rifleman stage and without any good defense position the writing was on the wall.

Don't forget to build forts & citadels at key points. They can be great for defensive wars. Also try to get artillery as fast as u can. Then defeating Hiawatha would be a piece of cake.
