Hi,

In my game, one turn, I suddenly declared war on 3 other nations automatically! I didn't press any buttons apart from ENTER to end turn, and suddenly I'm at war with three opponents?! I confirmed that I was the one declaring war on them (not vice versa), as it's listed in their happy/unhappy comments...

Well, luckily I had planned a war against one of these opponents, and many turns later I had basically obliterated him; taken all his cities apart from a small worthless coastal city, which I was planning to completely pillage before making peace with him.
And suddenly, when a turn ended, I made peace with him?? I was planning to extort him for both techs and gold, but somehow the computer made peace with him automatically?!

What is going on??! Any help appreciated!

No, I wasn't the vassal of anyone, neither did I have any pacts or deals with any other nations...

If this had been Beyond the Sword I would say it was an Apostolic Palace resolution. In warlords I would belive you had a defensive pact with someone.

Auto-peace probably comes from him capitulating to a 3rd civ.

Thanks for your reply :)

I tried loading up my earliest autosave, but unfortunately it's 2 turns after the war had been declared. I'm quite sure I didn't have any defensive pacts, as in this save I'm playing completely on my own, turning down any offers. Looking at my relations when the war had been decleared, I didn't have any pacts or vassal agreements with anyone.

That's completely right, upon reloading and checking, it turns out he became the vassal of another civilization when I took out his second last city. I wasn't aware that this automatically decleared peace with nations he's at war with... I learn something new every day!

Thanks for the clarification! Still puzzled as to why I declared war though..

I created an account just for this:

I had this problem before where when I press enter to end a turn I actually dismiss another nations diplomacy attempts. This is because enter automatically declines any offer, so when I was playing settler to see if you win doing only what the computer suggested, no matter how dumb I ended up spamming enter and getting some other nations pissed off.

Too make a long story short, when you thought you were ending the turn, you really ended a diplomacy bubble before it appeared, now normally this isnt a big deal but that may have been the catalyst. Might not be your mystery war, but it could be responsible.

And yes, you can decline a deal before you even see the guy due to your computer sorting everything out in order.

There is a random event that can happen that can cause another to player declare war on the player that the event happens to. If this event happened to an AI player with you as the other player and it picked the option that causes the war to happen then you would declare war on them. If they had 2 vassals or defensive pacts with 2 other players (or one of each) then you would find yourself at war with all 3.
