The play "Hair" is being performed there. One of the props / decor-pieces is an adapted Statue of Liberty. The premiere is July 14th; coincidentally the same day USA President Bush meets Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel. Critisizers claim this is an Anti-Bush protest, while the statue of course resembles the anti Vietnam sentiments of the time Hair plays.

What do you make of this ?

It is crude and inappropriate in public, regardless of intent. It probably is a coincidence, but a convenient one.

They are still showing that old hippy exhibitionist 'play'? Egad!

You guys built a giant imitation of the Statue of Liberty, covered in fake blood and giving everyone the finger? Is this what all Dutch do in their spare time?

The Dutch? Since when was Germany part of the Netherlands?

I don't really get why this is a protesting against Bush. It's just the statue of liberty giving the finger. Thats not directly related to Bush in any way.

I agree, this is an insult directed at America itself, not Bush.

It's the price of cultural imperialism; this is an American musical.

Wiki entry

"The last time I was inside a woman was when I was inside the Statue of Liberty". -Woody Allen in Crimes and Misdemeanors.

Is this a big deal really?

I used to think 'Hair' was very significant. Then I grew up. Now for me its on a par with HR Puffinstuff. Fun for kids and the whole family.

 The heck? I thought that the middle finger was against forum rules? I'm too uninformed.

Yes, that it trash. That piece of garbage is only acceptable when pointed in the general direction of Osama Bin Laden.

Bush protesting is so passé. It's like complaining about the common cold.

I have a cold, off work for a couple of days most likely, boring really, to ill to do much, sheez I threw up twice this morning I coughed so hard, and my dog eat it or part of it, dogs'll eat anything.

I disagree bush complaining is fun still, I know I shouldn't but it's so easy to find fault and this guy just irks me for some reason, which I will endeavour to bring up at length the next time someone tries to defend him about something or another.

The Staute is cool, maybe they should point it towards Mecca? Be funny if nothing else, not sure the muslims would take it to well though ;)

Obscenities are acceptable, apparently, if they insult the U.S. or its current administration.

All I have to say is "let the sun shine in".

And who cares if it is an anti-Bush protest? Are those not allowed?
