I cannot launch the game and I am wondering is if it is because of a defective disc. When installing the game, after I put in the second disc I got the following message.

data3.cab 655.306 Cabinet File

Is this normal, is this due to a defective disc. I have been waiting almost a month for 2K to respond and the only thing they have said is that they are still too busy to respond to my specific question.

ANYONE?

If there is a serious error with this disc I do not want to install it and then have someone else fix my system. Bought the game over a month ago so I am simply asking if data3.cab 655.306 Cabinet File is something unusual?

I appreciate 2K is busy but ...

the game doesn´t show any errors but i cannot see the map of the game, its all black.. any ideas??

my machine:
p4 2.0
512 ram
ati radeon 7500
i just update the catalyst driver but still not work

thanx

yep, it seems like a disc error. Just be sure, that it has no finger marks on it, or stains, or anything like that, clean your cd/dvd rom with a lens cleaner disc, and then try it again. If that doesn't work, go to the store where you get it and tell them the game came with defective discs.

The video card seems to be old. Try to get a new one. I recommend any Geforce Series with 256 mb, they're not that expensive, and are highly compatible with all new games. :goodjob:

Switching from an ATI Radeon Card to a nVidia card might not be the answer, infact it might cause more problems than he's already got.

I remember last year sometime when a friend of mine switched over to a nVidia card from a Radeon card, he had no end of problems for weeks on end because the Computer wouldn't accept the nVidia card for some reason. In the end he just formated his computer and since then he has had no problems with anything.

Personally I don't know if you would be better off replacing your Radeon card with an nVidia card or not because I've had nVidia cards in my computer since it was built 3 years ago.

Well, as a matter of fact, it CAN be an issue. Newer video cards are released not just because of bigger amounts of memory. They are released also, because newer technologies are being implemented to video games like bump mapping, or True Hardware Transform and Lightining. If the game requires only 64 mb of video card memory, and you have that, MAYBE with a little bit of luck, you will be able to run it, BUT, if the game has newer graphics technology,(and it does) like lightning for example, the Radeon 7500 won't be able to "draw" the textures, even if you have the minimum required. So, if you can run it smoothly, or at least run it, but you have a weird black terrain, OBVIOUSLY somethings wrong with the video card or the drivers, BUT you already updated the drivers, so that kinda narrows it down.

Regarding the ATI or Nvidia matter, I had a Radeon 9800 before my current GeForce 5800, and I really noticed greater performance in HL2, Doom 3, Quake 4, since I like those games a lot, and I like running them at high detail. And I never experienced "Incompatibility" issues. I just make sure that I totally erased the old ATI drivers, and installed the newest drivers. I didn't even had to reinstall the games again. :mischief: .

But I guess, is up to each guy. Later. :p

BTW, I payed like 70 bucks more for the ATI than the Nvidia one.
