Defensive Terrain Question

Brilliant question btw wombat, you have exposed a plethora of fools.

Hey, why don't you look the manual...
Can you read: Terrain defensive bonus???
there you are...

Yeah, attackers have always their scratch value, I mean tanks have attack 16 and will never have more than that. Still, placing attackers in mountains is a very good idea, because they can defend themshelves before an attack if not very badly overwhelmed.

bbaws,

A poll is not a functional solution to your problem.

You are wrong; absolutely.

Attackers get no postive or negative adjustment from ATTACKING from a certain type of terrain or a fortress.

This has been repeatedly tested again and again and your posts and experience are just illusion or misconception on your part.

Terrain effects the movement ability of attackers, but beyond those factors, there is no bonus.

If you are looking at barbarian combat results you need to understand what difficulty level you are playing on because all units will get an attack bonus against barbarians depending on the difficulty level you are playing. This will skew your perception of the results but it has absolutely nothing to do with terrain, city, or fortification status of the attacker.

You can find these attack bonuses as they apply against barbarians by looking in the editir at the "Difficulty Levels" tab. As an example, the default attack bonus versus barbarians on Warlord level is 400%. You have to play at Deity level in order for there to be no attack bonus versus barbarians.

Obfuscatory received wisdom again.
Like a whoe bunch of other posters you are posting your opinion as hard and fast knowledge.
IMHO again. Your attackers do better if you do them wee favours lke building a fort for them to attack from. Civ ! and 2 took forts into account. You choose to beleive bs. Your choice. All I seek to do is communicate my hard earned experience to someone who asked an appropriate question. Not one poster has directly disagreed with MY OBSERVATIONS of civ 3 founded on expertise of civ 1 and 2. If you want to base your games on innaccurate hearsay fine, keep it to yourselvess. It's as simple as putting 2 like units on different terrain and seeing which is more likely to win. Bear in mind this is Civ 3-the programmers have had two whole other games (and numerous patches for civ3) to eliminate obvious anti commonsensicalisms
END OF THREAD

So with your attack/defend rounds theory:
If you get terrain bonuses when you attack as well as when you defend, why does it not say that in the manual? Or Civilopedia? Or editor? Or anywhere else? Why are they called defensive terrain bonuses? And also are you saying that it does not matter whether you attack or defend with a unit, because you are always both attacking and defending in every battle? And therefore A/D values don't mean a thing? Am I misunderstanding you about this part (the attack/defend rounds thing)?

If this is true, it would be such a huge thing that I can not see why it isn't mentioned in any documentation ever written about Civ3, and why every documentation ever written about Civ3 says just about the opposite of what you're saying.

I wish a moderator would either close this thread or give "bbaws" the other half of his/her lobotomy. It is obvious this person is only looking for a fight.

Attacking units do not get an offensive bonus based on terrain, cities, or fortresses in Civ3.

Bah! This thread is closed. Bbaws, if you'd like others to repect your opinions you should respect theirs first.

And cracker.....be nice ;)
