[Deity] Barbarian spawning mechanics? Also, when do you build your theater districts?

Am I correct in assuming that as soon as a Barbarian scout gets that red exclamation point over it's head there is no point in hunting it down aside from not leaving it around to pick off a trade route later, because it has already triggered the spawning of Barbarians?

Also, how many turns (standard speed, and online speed) do I have after it first spots my city before I am up to my neck in horsemen (or warriors + slingers, if there are no horses nearby)?

With Gorgo, is it feasible to farm barbarians? On a lark, I took the God of War pantheon option to tack on some faith to my culture boosts and gave it a try, but after the initial horde (some of which seemed to have disappeared somehow while I was building my holy site, despite being trapped on a peninsula with mountains penning them in), none spawned.

Is there an interval between waves that get spawned, and if so, how long is it? If not, does that mean there is just the one huge wave and then the camps go dormant forever?

When do you guys tend to build theater districts? I've tried building it after following my usual pattern to get set up (basically, after my initial invasion and commercial district) but at that point it feels like I have so many things to build and I have no time to run theater projects, and if I'm not running those projects I might as well have just settled a mediocre spot and built a monument.

And that's just when I'm aiming for a non-cultural victory. I'm currently reading the culture victory guide and learning a lot, but apparently not enough, since I keep hitting a brick wall of hitting next turn a kajillion times whenever I do aim for a cultural victory. I suspect it's because I start building my theater districts too late and/or I need to somehow find times to squeeze in theater projects. Not really sure how to pull off either, though.

I would never build culture unless I'm going culture victory and I would never run a project. You are totally right. They have no point.

If I am going culture, I would build them in every city as second or third district. Otherwise they are terrible. They make holy sites look good and again, I only build those if I am going religious victory.

I believe that the barbarians don't spawn until the Scout reaches its origin camp, so hunting them down is still wise.

Theater districts end up pretty low on my priority unless I'm really hurting for it or I have nothing else to build. Usually it seems fine to just keep up via population.

Theater districts always seem to be bottom of my list for districts, but I am a "warmongering menace to the world"

When a scout sees you (I believe he actually has to see your city by the way, border not being enough, but you know when the red exclamation mark appears), he will run back to his camp, after which the camp will spawn 4 units in 4 turns that will go and raid you (number might be dependant on difficulty level, but I'm not sure. King and Emperor both have 4, I think). It should be noted, however, that the scout doesn't always take the shortest route. It feels, to me, as if they're just randomly wandering around and eventually get back to their camp. Also, you can ignore camps close to city states and other civilizations as they'll get cleared out in no time.

About theater districts... Yeah, they're basically useless. I use a mod that changes districts (meaning a buff for theater districts), playing greece, and the only reason I started building some acropoli eventually was because I was like "okay, I need 4 turns to build one here, lets just do it".

Then again, going for a domination victory with gorgo means you're never starved for culture anyways, and I couldn't care less about tourism.

Am I correct in my belief that barbarian scouts are not a threat by themselves? I've moved settlers right next to them and they don't touch them. I've also never seen them pillage my stuff.

Yes, but they will go after your caravans like a hungry shark.

They do? I remember someone in a mod I use having a patch note that he removed that, and from the way it was worded, I thought he had earlier made them do it. I can't remember for sure though, because I'm used to my modded version of the game.

Never thought about it much (culture districts). I guess i could build like 2 districts less as i do get to the end of the civic tree to quickly when i dont go for a culture victory.

Maybe it is one of my old habbits from civ 4. Where you could take over border tiles with a higher culture. Or i just like to compete with great pieces of art/music. Unlocking them is a treat every time so i keep doing it.

About projects, it's highly dependent on victory path.

For Science Victories, they're almost indispensable, because the combo Kwolek + Sagan will build all spaceship parts altogether. Rushing them via projects and purchasing (after Big Ben) is the way most people in the Science Victory thread achieve sub-turn-200 victories.

For Domination, running projects to get some Great Generals isn't a bad idea. I once ended up with a Knight Corps from 2 Great Generals in Classical Era. A heavy cavalry unit with 58 strength (63 if alongside another Great general) when all other cities were around 35 strength was no joke, and I only got them because I had been running Encampment projects (I was in no rush to build Settlers, given that I captured so many cities and didn't want to expand that much).

Carnival projects may be good because of amenities. They give almost all GPP too.

A culture can be a long and boring game.
Getting theater districts early and pumping them expands your borders lots (saving gold) and pushes those GW in which with printing boosts you to archaeology before you know it.
Chop for museums and rush buy archaeologists and you find yourself competing against 50-100 domestic tourists in other countries as opposed to 300.

Every victory condition requires concentration on the target to get maximal impact. You do not have to but do not underestimate theater districts and do not over egg commercial/harbour districts if going cultural fast win route. Screw the wonders. You can even ignore science if you wish as long as you can get up that cultural tree fast enough thats where most value is in general.

There are always exceptions but you should be able to finish in under 200 turns with a lucky start, a good CS or two as long as you do not go too wide and stick to what is needed.

Of course its more fun to do other things as well amd thats the beauty of the game. Now I can get sub 200 I play 300-400 games as efficiency is as exciting as accountancy.

Your people are starved for knowledge and beauty, and yet you ignore science and art. Why?

He usually finds that my people would be satiated by his people's knowledge and beauty. I'm an industrial nation. Who wants to buy some human leather like in Rimworld :D?

The best feeling is when you rush science, declare colonial wars with everyone and steal their cities, only to find a kajillion and a half Great Works and other goodies.

Why build, when you can steal?
