Another OCC.... everything pretty much standard. No modification on rules, re-roll cheats, or terrain editing/tampering nonsense.

I played up to computers/internet, and am in a dominant position so believe the game is won. But I may just continue it to finish if people really want. Will post my results later on maybe.

For now, the initial save for those who want a crack....

@ Cantaloup

Spoiler :
I don't like where you settled at all.. And if I am going to settle on flat-land, I would have gone one more tile East.. that way you would double the city's protection by the river. The AI is so stupid they often will not prioritize angles of attack.

Did I miss something?

I never bulb... ever.

Spoiler :

Yes, I mean exactly that. 1 East.. My #1 priority is ALWAYS safety of the capital first. I am always fighting half the world or more at a time, I can not afford to risk my only city being vulnerable.

Hah, just had to laugh (in a good way) at the screenshot by BiC. Five wonders before a granary :D Certainly some unorthodox play in these kind of games ;)

That's pretty much how I usually do my games.

That's a very strong move that grants huge success on Deity and virtually insta win on every level below that. Slowing down the tech pace due to less trades from bulbing, AI denial (spoken from you in regards to Wonders and hampering the AI) and getting not only a super science city but huge hammer house is never a bad thing. Of course you won't have the fastest wins possible by any means but nonetheless, you'll get solid results.

Btw your worker management is horrible, you'd do better automating them. -- DaveMcW
Lmao. I miss that guy.

Random player - "How do I win on Noble?"
DaveMcW - Build Warriors.

Random player - "How do I win on Monarch?, Emperor or above?"
DaveMcW - Build Cottages.

@ BIC

Burning off a general on a unit from a charismatic civ seems like a big waste to me. You are charismatic after all, you will be running out of promotions anyhow much of the time... or did you think you could win diplo by just peace most the time? Ahah! }:)

My current contract runs out after Friday, so I may be able to finish my save this weekend...

I also have been thinking on Qin in place of DeGaulle.... I may set up a few deity experiments with him. Haven't looked at the mathematics in details for diminishing returns on promotions... but I may just get around to that next week too. Both have their benefits...

Imperialistic also has my interest... but I just don't see it worth losing a good trait for OCC on hard settings.

Eventually, CHA catches up but that's quite far down the line. I don't know the further numbers ; I suppose the breaking point is around 25-30xp.
You think so..? :mischief: :nope:

Promotions PRO CHA
1 2
2 4
3 2 8
4 5 13
5 10 20
6 17 28
7 26 38
8 37 49
9 50 62
10 65 76
11 82 92
12 101 109
13 122 128
14 145 148
15 170 170
16 197 193
17 226 218
18 257 244

CHA eventually catches up at 170 XP. :strength:

That is quite counter-intuitive. CHA seems to catch AGG at 49XP, much later than I would have guessed.
Well, technically I guess you could say it "catches up" at 4XP, but then AGG runs away again at 5... But yes, CHA is great for mounted units. Melee and Gunpowder units do better with AGG, archery units are way better off with PRO (assuming you get any use from the CG promotion).

If I get any use out of the CG promotion is usually means I screwed up or it's early in an AW game.

Yeah! I'm thinking the same thing... and when the desired size is reached, turn some of the farms into cottages..

Even tho its not much commerse on this map, you dont need that much either.. It should be possible to stay ahead tech wise by espionage. It all depends on how the diplo/war situation unfolds..

Gl whit your second attempt.. migth try another myself!

I just find it a little tedious to play civ 4 without buffy... Is there other Enhanced interface mods that would work on this map?

Tried this one out too. Held out till 1570AD. Stalin and his 3 vasals wiped me out.
Winning against such a runaway would have been impossible anyway I think.

Spoiler :

- Got SH, GW and Mids. Later GLib and some attempts just for the failgold.
- Went the specialist route => Farmed some and left forests intact for health and forest preserves (reached bio at the end but never got to implement any)
- Only Boudica was willing to trade techs early, which got me to a backwards tech position where I had very little to offer for catching up.
- 2 Buddhist/ 2 Hindu / 1 Juda / 1 Confu, so no dominant religion. I would have joined the Budhist camp (Isabella+Monty) if I could, but only Stalin's Judaism was available until >1000AD (and he dowed at pleased after I gave in to his demand to become Judaist ±1350AD)

- At first I thought Stalin was weak. Shaka dowed him twice, 2nd time ended with Shaka's cap however. Toku dowed Boudica (both hindu), then gradually everybody turned on Toku until he capped to Stalin too. Now Stalin turned on me. My defpact with Boudica cost her her independancy. My grens got eaten alive by Stalin's cossacks. Game over.

- I was glad Paris was not a target until late. And I could have lived longer as a Buddhist and with a different techpath probably. But I should really have been more proactive keeping power balance among AI's, in this case to support Shaka against Stalin for starters. (but how do you know who to support and how much?)
At this point I'd say OCC+Deity => too hard for me.
