Thanks for the info on the tech catapults! I usually try to stay in the lead whenever I can, but I usually am way far behind in the Anceint age, and once I get a tech no one else has, then I can usually trade it for all the others I don't have, or the GL will balance me out. Never woulda known it was good for more than Education tho. Would swear that it stopped giving me techs once I got that.
I recall a game in which I was way behind and had to build a bunch of galleys and wasted most of them trying to cross an ocean so I could make contact with other civs and get techs before I got too far behind. I'd swear that they had more than Education, and that my free techs stopped once they gave me Education, but maybe I'm remembering wrong, or maybe they weren't as far ahead as I thought. No matter. But it's still an interesting idea.
The Nationalism slingshot works for not just that. I believe a Sci Civ gets Rocketry in Modern Age, which is good for something if you are behind. And surely Monotheism is also usable. It just so happens that usually Nationalism is in just the right place and the others aren't.
And as to the language argument:
Let's show a little respect to one another and try not to obfuscate our meanings or otherwise disclude our non-native-English-speaking friends. I can see ragging on some American who graduated from high school for not using capitalisation or paragraphs or punctuation, and for really stupid misspellings and attrocious grammar, but there are plenty of "foreigners" who speak English a lot better than the majority of us Americans. (And you can bet they can find us on the map too. How many of us can't find Canada?)
Being young only gets you so much slack. You're in an adult area, and you must behave accordingly. Likewise, we adults need to behave in a truly adult manner and help you to feel welcome and appreciated.
Don't ever wish to be stupid. Then you would have nothing, and be worth nothing. Bide your time, learn all you can, and forget about the people who try to keep you down. In a few years, you will be their boss. This doesn't mean you get to take your revenge on them, because then you would be no better than they are. You are worth something, and you must always be. Jerks will never amount to anything, and you can take that to the bank.
