Who has ever played a level > Deity? You must only edit the rules.txt or rules.fre (for the French) or rules.ger (Germans).
But be careful - make a copy of the file before editing
And I've heard of Deity+5 ...
Never tried that befor, but I will test it now!

? care to explain....

What I meant is: Edit the rules.txt. Search the level entries (chieftain .....deity) and add a line, super deity for example.

Andu Indorin (+ Starlifter, Kev, the Viking, and others) played a Deity +1 classic succession game (in the Civ 2 stories and tales) -- with great write-ups I must add.

Actually, the file that must be changed is the Games.txt file, where one can add up to five additional difficulty levels, and two additional barbarian levels. (At Deity +6, the game malfunctions as "barbarians" conquer all opposing civilizations on the first turn; and at Raging Barbarians +3, one gets additional points for Barbarians, but they never appear.)

Deity +5 can be quite the challenge. It's the only time I've seen an AI commence and complete construction on a Wonder of the World in less than a single turn. And it also forces you to make some serious choices in the early game on which Wonders to build, and which to let the AI civs build. In my current game, I allowed the Sioux to get both Copernicus's Observatory and the Great Library, while I built Leo's and Mike's Chapel. I was only barely able to prevent them Industrializing prior to 1200 a.d. by a close margin; had a more distant civilization managed to build these two, I believe I would have lost the game.

Of course, there are some decided fringe benefits to surviving the early game at D + 5:
