Why can't we delete our own posts? I can see the reason for not being able to delete other users, but is there any certain reason why we are not aloud to delete our own??

why would you want to delete a post when you just can edit it?

Quite a few reasons.... Incase of a double post... or maybe if you posted something then re-read it after you posted it and thought it sounded stupid. Or even if you post something and later find out it's against the forum rules.

all these(exept double post) can be fixed by editing.

I know, but what if say you post something then want to get rid of it. So you go into edit and try to think of away to change it, but you can't think of anything so just change it to "delete me."

It can also be used say if you try to post a poll ,but forget to hit the poll button then you can delete your post(thread and all) and try it again.

ok you convinced me

TF we want this option:)

And, in the demogame, sometimes you post a new thread and forget the post a poll option.

"delete me."
That works adequately, a moderator will usually see it with a few hours and delete it, and if not so what? We hit the worng buttons sometimes.

What Lefty said.

And I want to say that I wouldn't like people to have that ability at all, because it would be misused for trolling and flaming, like posting a flame when you know the "target" is online and then delete it after he replied, before a mod sees it.
It is also very confusing if people delete their thoughts later, after you already began to reply to them.

Also, if you could delete your own post, you could delete a thread you started, and ALL the other posts in it.

Yep, its one of the problems with VBullitin that deleting the first post deletes the whole thread. Although there might be a hack that flags the option between posters and moderators so that moderators can easily delete entire threads whilst posters can just delete their own posts. Although really what Hitro said makes the function impossible to be implemented.

phpbb forums allow you to delete the first post. the second post becomes the first. i've tried it because i've had to do it before :D

That would be VERY risky.... Alot of people hit the quote button when they are replying directly to someone else. If someone trolls and flames then waits for the person to reply and that person hits the quote button then even if the person delete's his posts then he will still get caught.

I don't think we'd be any better off for being able to delete our own posts. Why not leave things the way they are? :mischief:

Actually... This thread was orginally made because I wanted to know why we couldn't delete our own posts.... It saves the moderators acouple of seconds from deleting our screw-ups and gives them alittle while longer to do more important stuff. :)

Nah, that's no proof, you could simply make that up as you can see above.

That is still proof... Yes they can do that, but what if the person decides not to delete there post after that? A mod could easily see what you tried to do.
