I personally would love to see an Emirati civilization in Civ 5. Not only has the civilization never been in one of the games, but in the modern day it is certainly one of the most impressive countries on the planet. Both for it's outlandish architecture and mind-boggling wealth.

I would make it something like this:

Civilization: Emirates / United Arab Emirates / Emirati Civilization / Emirati Empire (Whatever name you feel like really... )

Leader: Sheikh Zayed (Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan)

Intro: "Greetings Sheikh Zayed, President of the United Arab Emirates and rule of Abu Dhabi. Your nation may be small geographically, but contains the largest ambitions the world has ever seen. Forming from a unison of tiny, irrelevant sheikdoms on the Arabian Peninsula your nation has grown at an unpreceddented pace, through ambitious construction projects, visionary social policies and and the accumulation of immense wealth. Your skycrapers tower over the mediocre competitors in America and China, and bring awe to the masses across the world.

Sheikh Zayed your people call on you once again, to bring vision and guidance as they venture into the future. Can you show them greatness? Can you build a civilization that will stand the test of time?"

Unique Ability: Pearl of the Middle East - Luxury Resources produce an extra 1+ gold.

Unique Unit: Shasha - Replaces workboat. +1 movement over regular workboats.

Unique Building: Souk - Replaces market. Increases gold output % to 30.

Abu Dhabi - Capital
Dubai
Sharjah
Al Ain
Ajman
Fujairah
Ras al-Khaimah
Umm al-Quwain
Hatta

Great Merchant Name: Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum

(They should also add the Burj Khalifa wonder after you get Globalization) :)

But it will never happen.
 
I think there needs to be a Civ of the Italian peninsula from a more recent era than Rome. I would suggest Kingdom of Italy (1861-1943) or Sicily (1130-1266).

Leader: Vittorio Emmanuele (Italy), Roger II (Sicily)

Trait:
For Vittorio: "Padre della Patria", +1 food and +1 production in each city
for Roger: "Sicilian Domination", +1 combat strength to land and naval units

Unique Unit: Condottiero, replaces Longswordsman, same stats but also gives 10% combat bonus to friendly units in adjacent tiles.

Unique Building: Piazza, replaces Market, gives normal +25% gold but also +1 culture.


Hope yall like the idea.
 
Alright, since Italy or Sicily are too close to Rome, here are five civilizations which have been overlooked by the Civ series. Granted, when the first Civ came out S. Africa was still in apartheid. My personal favorites are Crete and Israel.

Crete
Leader: Minos
Trait: Strength of the Minotaur (+25% combat bonus when defending)
UU: Argo (Replaces Trireme, additional +1 to ranged strength, movement, and sight)
UB: Labyrinth (Replaces Colosseum, additional +2 happiness)

Moundbuilders/Hopewell
Leader: Great Sun
Trait: Early Innovation (+2 production per city until Engineering)
UU: Big Man (Replaces Warrior, additional +2 combat strength)
UB: Mound (Replaces Monument, additional +1 culture and +1 happiness)

Ethiopia
Leader: Haile Selassie
Trait: Scourge of Colonialism (Cities receive +4 defense bonus)
UU: Spear Thrower (Replaces Crossbowman, additional +3 to ranged strength)
UB: Oasis (Replaces Garden, improves from +25% Great Person bonus to 33% Great Person bonus)

Israel
Leader: David
Trait: Jewish Cunning (Tiles adjacent to river or coast generate additional 1 gold per turn)
UU: Slingman (Replaces Archer, additional +1 to range)
UB: Synagogue (Replaces Opera House, additional +1 culture and +2 gold per turn)

South Africa
Leader: Nelson Mandela
Trait: The Great Uniter (Happiness from buildings doubled)
UU: AK-47 (Replaces Infantry, additional +4 to strength and 25% combat bonus in Open territory)
UB: Prison (Replaces Workshop, improves to +33% prod. to buildings, with a penalty of -1 culture and -1 happiness)

I guess your knowledge about Israel is based mainly on stereotypes...
Anyway, I agree with veBear, Israel was never a superpower and if added to Civ should be one of the last additions.
 
I looked in the Civ V xml files and there are hints there, that maybe religion will be back in the game in a later stage of it's development.
 
I've already stated this but I suppose there is no issue in me stating it
again.

When is a poll going to be made for this? For instance:
"Do you support this civ list for submitting to firaxis?"
Or something like that.

Now let me also ask, since we'd be lucky if the list wasn't
trashed aside, why are we bothering with leaders? Now
for certain civs like the Norse, Canute is the only real
symbol of a united norse empire. But for certain others
the leader is rather unimportant in comparison to the chance
of seeing the empire in the game.
 
Hungary. Raided through Europe in the 800s, just like the vikings. Then it became a regional power in the Middle Ages for centuries.
Not strictly Hungary itself, but they came back on international politic stage in the post-imperialistic era as the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Edit: There is already a Hungarian Civilization for Civ 4 IIRC.
 
Well the hungarians are a turkic people who spoke a finno-ugrian language.
They aren't slavic.

The austro-hungarian empire was a young, rather pathetic empire that showed
both austria and hungary at their worst. While the empire of hungary not only
established an empire that lasted for hundreds of years, but it was at it's
maxium height for most of that time, and only when the empire collapsed
did it shrink in size by any considerable amount.

Now overall I see poland as something more important to add, but overall
it's rather important to include hungary. And seeing as we might
get the inca in an upcoming DLC, why not just add hungary to the
list?

Well, that's the problem. You don't want to add too many European civs, but since Europe has so many important civs you can't ignore, this becomes a little difficult.
 
to thowse complaining about too big number of European civs: in Civ we usually have lots of ones that were on the western side in Cold War. When it comes to the East, it's usually Russia and that's it.

lies in poland. Hungary is awesome but is not QUITE as well known.

Exactly. As if there is nobody between Germany, Russia and Greece. I would like to see civs like Poland and Hungary in the game. Mainly because they were never made officially by Firaxis. Instead they focused on not-real-civs like Byzantium and Holy Rome.
