Deleting old accounts...

After browsing the member's list on these forums, I have seen several accounts which were created in 2001 and don't even have one post! My suggestion is to delete these old accounts so that newer members can use those names. I'm no forum expert, but wouldn't it make the forums quicker too as there aren't as many members listed to slow it down? Or is deleting accounts for no reason other than age against the forum rules?

TF said something about this a few days ago.

Basically, the amount of server space accounts take out (10mb, iirc) is so small that it really doesn't matter. Wouldn't help the forums a bit.

I like the idea of deleting old accounts. However: They should be atleast more than a year old. And they should´nt have made any posts, not even one.

Some people create accts to only do searches...

Why does this topic always come up every now and then? We won't delete accts, unless they're DLs. End of story. ;)

Sorry, but I didn't know that this topic comes up often. It just came to me browsing the member's list and seeing tons of 0 post, 2001 accounts. What are DLs? Downloads?

TF leaves the accounts because if he did delete them it would appear that the forum membership dropped.

No matter what the gain would be he wants a big, and more importantly legitimate number to appear for forum members....even if three quarters of them don't exist.

I think I went through this with him in 2001 about accounts created when the forum first started. Test accounts....and stuff like that. He wouldn't remove them then...he won't remove them now.

I'd say tyrants never change....but that would put a bad spin on his leadership. The word Tyrant has un-earned negative connotation. A Tyrant is just a leader that rules as one in his own self interests, as opposed to the interests of the community. Effective...but not always popular.

Anyway...I don't know why I said that...too much Political Science class...that's all. But thought you would like some insight into the reason why the accounts stay...from a long time staffer.
