Demi-God to Deity on C3C

Ok well, i've clocked the demi god game, but am finding the adjustment to deity a little difficult, did go one game nearly all the way (free settler and one easyish civ i was able to take out) to the end but found one civ had taken over too much of the world and had 4:1 army at least. And other times without a great start i find it very hard to keep with in the initial land grab. Any tips on good strategies on how to keep in the game in the initial land grab and how to (if at all possible) to keep up with AI production in terms of arms.

Or if there are any other things in general that can be discussed about strategies on Deity feel free to post them.
