Democracy needs fixing!

America is an oligarchy because of the three branches of government and of the sense of elected officials except for the Supreme Court.

I don't think it's such a bad idea to have a couple different "lines" of government that evolve. An authoritative one, a religious one, a democratic one, and a populist one, for example.

For example, at the beginning of the game, before the existence of official governments, you could have:

Authoritative: Warlord
Religious: Shaman
Democratic: Tribalist
Populist: Chiefdom

Which, by the middle ages, becomes:

Authoritative: Despotism
Religious: Theocracy
Democratic: Feudalism
Populist: Monarchy

Which, by the modern ages, becomes:

Authoritative: Fascist
Religious: Fundamentalist
Democratic: Democracy
Populist: Communist

... note -- the categories and examples I pulled out were the first that came to mind, and they're not refined. I was more just expanding on Krikkitone's ideas. "Food for thought".

And, assuming it's a good idea in the first place, you'd find a better list of governments from a few other people, let alone Firaxis.

I really like and support this idea. I would even suggest doing it like SMAC, so say economics also had its own tree along with the other two that I cant remember.
That would give a huge variety but be easy to navigate.

Actually, smac allowed for 4^3 = 64 options. And have you read and got answers for all the criticisms against the smac system?

At the moment? No. But I have an excuse ;) it's bed time. :p I'll sit down and come up with soem basic ideas.

As for the choices, you're right. I was thinking 3 options with 4 choice and did it that way - 3^4, instead of the proper way.
