Which government is better?
I like to wage war often. But Democracy is weary about war, especially which I waged.

It depends on what kind of empire and playing style you have. If you have lots of cities there comes a point where communism is better than democracy. But if you plan on being peaceful and have a medium size empire democracy usually allows for more commerce and less corruption.

Communism is absolutely the way to go for even a medium sized empire, if you like to war. :hammer:

In fact, it's now so strong (in C3C) some people consider it broken.

Depends on the size of the empire and what you want to do. A big enough communist empire can get more gpt than a democracy. A medium size communist empire can out produce a democracy though and has no WW so is better for war.

What about the map? Does having lots of islands or just one big continent effect the government effectiveness?

Yes.
In Democracy, the cities farthest away from your capital or forbidden palace have a higher level of corruption than in your core cities. In communism though, the corruption is the same in all your cities.

Therefore, on an island map, where it's more likely that your cities will be more spread out, Communism might be a better choice. There's not really a key answer to this, because your choice of government depends on so many different factors.

Here is a few points in communisms warmongering favor:

You can wage all the wars you want to wage, no ww whatsoever..

The unit support of 6 per city compared to democracy's 0 is nice

As an example, I lost 150 gold per turn to corruption more under democracy than communism.. For the records, i had 52 cities
(btw, is there an easy way to see how many cities you have?)

You get better spies you know

You get the sphq..

Im still yet to try Communism really, but I would say this: make your next enemy furious with threats next time you want a war (in Democracy), then ask his troops to leave or declare war (obviously you need his/her troops in your territory), chances are he will declare and then you have the 20 turn (if its that long) no WW period because s/he declared war on you.

I would prefer Democracy. If your still working on the scientific track, communism SUCKS! I had science at full and it would've taken me 40 turns for my one remaining turn in Democarcy.

Err... It's just the war happiness. (I like to call it cheery war :crazyeye: ) If you do enough fighting, you will experience WW. (WW killed me in one game even though I was invaded - Each turrn the WW went up, and all my cities rioted. I had to use the GOVERNOR  )

I like Democracy, but sometimes just because I don't have time for anarchy I stay with Monarchy. Maybe not the brightest thing to do, but it works.

As for how many cities you have: Go to the F1 editor, you will see 9 cities displayed, each click down if you are clicking on the bar instead of the arrow, will be 8 cities. Figure out how many 8's you have.

If it's a big empire, I choose communism. One time I owned all of a Tiny map (all of it), which was a Pangea with a low amount of water. When I went from democracy to communism, my income jumped 200%.

Communism!!! There are many advantages in Communism that I like to use.

1. It suits a large empire which I like to make if I can.

2. It goes very well with wartime strategies, which I usually use.

3. There is a high draft limit, so I'm always drafting units.

4. Whoever is unhappy about the draft is periodically destroyed in forced labor to build more units.

5. No WW.

6. Veteran spies for "peacetime" operations.

I've found myself doing this often too, just staying in monarchy, especially during Wonder races.

Where does Fasicm fit in the Communism/Democracy debate? is it a viable government?

In my last game, I was in a democracy when the Mayans declared war on me. They sent a huge stack of 80+ units in to my territory, which led to some very intense fighting. I had war weariness in two turns.

Also, use the GOTO CITY on a unit to see how many choices (for that continent).

Commies can't research squat, but they can sure steal it.
