Descent: Freespace scenario thread

Available for download? Where? omgomgomg! tell me! I´m going nuts at the moment! (Well, of course that´s partly to playing C3C hotseat with my friends in only one PC... :crazyeye:)

You download the 3 disc images and burn them to CDs with an image writing program. There are detailed instructions on the page.

I've been playing through the campaign, and let me tell you, it's much better than the original in every aspect. :D I'm going to contact Volition about using game art in the mod. They even have the entire soundtrack available on the official site, so I'm pretty hopeful.

I finished the entire campaign in 4 days (not because it was short). That was one of the best games I've ever played. My only complaint is that the ending wasn't as suspenseful as the first one, although it left the possibility of another sequel wide open. Now if only Volition could be convinced to make FS3....
Anyway, I'm definitely going to make an X-pack. There's too much great stuff in this game to pass up. In fact I may just release 2 different versions- one for the Great War and one for FS2.

After crawling through a bunch of FS2 modding sites I finally found an official canon map:

I decided I'm going to remake the map, concentrating on the nodes instead of the actual system placement. A few stars are going to be moved around so that I can place all of the nodes without overlapping. In this scenario, where things are won't be nearly as important as how to get there, and I want to mirror the node system as closely as possible. And besides, it's innacurate to portray a 3D galaxy on a 2D map anyway.

I have the units added to the biq, and I've found a lot of space units that somewhat resemble FS ships. I'll have to use my imagination for resources and city improvements, because the games are set entirely on the battlefield. The only resource I remember being mentioned was deuterium. The tech tree should be easy enough- the game introduces each new technology and development as it happens.

You know, this would make a killer Civ4 scenario....
 
No, I've made a few simple units in POV-Ray and done some color conversions. I've never made a C&P unit though.

I´ll be very sad when I finish GTA 3... ´tis too good to last, it seems. Although I haven´t yet done most of the Yardie missions, none of the Hoods and half the Diablos´!!!

That's true... I wasn't sure what to do with the Herc and Athena. From a historical perspective, it doesn't make sense, because the Athena was older and had a different role, but in a strategic-scale game it fits because they are both in between fighters and bombers, and the Athena is the "stronger" of the two. Still, I would like to follow the tech progression of the game, so I might move them somewhere else.
 
I remember that mission when you had to use the Athenas and wings Beta, Gamma, Delta and Epsilon to capture goddamn SC Cain-class Taranis, which was protected by swarms of Shivans and HoL. But, well, i was the gunner and tracker, my best friend was the pilot then. We did manage to capture it, convince opurselves that teh war was over, and then the Lucifer ship, with its shields, came out of nowhere!
 
I don't know much about this game... I may have played it with you weasel but I am not too sure, however, from what I have looked at on here it looks neat. Do you still have... Imperium Galactica ? I think that was the name of it. Now that was a sweet game and deserves some sort of honour on here. I haven't come across anything about it so I guess it hasn't been done?
 
Never played IG. Although I have just won GTA III :smug:
I remember there was a game kinda like Freespace (it was rumoured they shared the engine) but for PS or other console.
