Describe the "personality" of each leader/civ (when controlled by the computer).

I get Catherine in like every one of my games too. She is one tough cookie to get her to like you. I usually try my hardest since she's hot.

Isabella always hates me and because of that I hate her too. I've grown to like pissing her off.

Tokugawa has to be the most warlike leader in the game. But I never start next to him. Every game he's the weakest civ because he picks stupid wars and ends up losing half his land.

Mansa Musa is always the tech leader among the AI's in my games. In one of my games in the modern age he was getting a new tech every 1-2 turns without trading for them. I didn't know what the hell was going on. He wasn't generating great people that often or in a golden age.

Victoria is usually pretty reserved but silently does well.

Gandhi is usually a good friend of everyone that I've seen.

Louis XIV generally does really well in the game too and I end up having to knock him down a peg.

In my last game Catherine has some serious hormone problems. First she dislikes me. Then she likes me. Then she hates me. Then she loves me. Then she declares war. Make up your mind, woman! Actually, this war has lasted pretty long so she seems to have. Haphsephut has been acting similarly though, but opposite of Catherine. When Catherine liked me, she disliked me, now she loves me. I feel like I'm caught in the middle of a catfight.

Saladin is the same to a lesser extent. He's the only one making demands though, which is weird since he's the wimp in the gang. I think they might all act like this on Immortal.

I think the personalities vary depending on your civ as well as theirs.

Hatshepsut has always been friendly with me, and I'm usually a Persia player.

Montezuma hates my guts and I'm glad to return the favor.

Isabella is usually cautious but I am oft to tick her off.

Catherine can suck it.

Ghandi... my nemesis...!

Saladin, cool guy.

Frederick, cool guy as well.

Bismarck, put down that gun!

Napoleon, no I will not go to war with England for you!

I can never get Washington mad at me, he doesn't even get mad! He just gets upset and calls to Ben Franklin to shoot me :D

Alexander has backstabbed me in both games I have played with him; after years of good relations he will suddenly launch a sneak attack stack where my defenses are weak. We will not get along after that.

Ceaser is suprisingly gracious. Get on his good side early and you'll have a powerful, cultured, technologically advanced ally.

Asoka is even handed and easy to get along with. Shared a continent with him for a whole game and never once had war.

Saladin can be a mean mofo, but not necessarily to the point of getting into pointless wars.

I haven't played with other leaders often enough to make generalizations about them.

Montezuma is always looking for a fight.

Mansu Musa is a tech whore

Caesar is a timid mouse. I smacked him in the mouth early and took his two biggest cities, after I sued him for peace he was only annoyed with me? I guess he doesn't care that I took Rome....either that or he was afraid to be furious because of my military might

Yeah, Asoka is a very peaceful guy. He's so peaceful that he doesn't even put up a fight. It's like taking candy from a baby.

Alexander- warlike and always pissin me off
Caesar - either my buddy or my worst enemy
Hatsephsut - Buddy
Isabella - Generally sorta friendly
Ghandi - Sits and tries not to piss anyone off, and tech to the lead. Always friends with everyone
Tokugawa - moderately hostile
Cyrus- in between

Normally my bane is Cyrus, Caesar or Alexander.

I despise and want to crush Louis XIV. He's always preemptively invaded and defeated my Rome on the new medditerian map.

In this game of mine Saladin was being very naughty.

He didn't convert no matter how many religions spread to his cities, waited until he founded Christianity and then immediately adopted Theocracy (doesn't allow spread of non-state religion for anyone who may not know).

Then he started this whole massive crusade and converted my Hinduist(?) allies into Christians while I refused to convert. It was a pangae map so religion was easy to spread to everyone. By late game 41% of the world were Christian, a rare sight for CIV.

Ghandi and Asoka are usually cool guys, steadfast allies, and peacefull. They are the ones from who I can most easily discard their tributes, even with a negative modifier they usually leave you alone.

Catherine has issues. She goes from being my best pal in most game, to declaring war just like that. Hormone things, probably, like Gufnork said.

Isabella has hormones problems, too, but they are consistent : she always b*tches about anything. Always. And usually ends up being beaten.

The Chinese leader (can't remember the name, not Mao), is a FRIGGIN' BACKSTABING BASTARD. Every single game, he's all stingy, and ends up attacking me in the back. I beat him, he signs peace, and he does it again some turns later.
My hate pet since then.

Elisabeth is tough. She leave me alone, but somehow she always manage to be in the first place.

Napolean: My hate pet right now. This guy hates just about every other civ, and he isn't afraid to say it even when everyone has a score of 3000+ and he's still crawling at 1000. I don't really know about his style of play because I always annihilate him first. :P

Hatshepsut: Quite demanding as a neighbor. Keeps asking me for tribute in one of my continent games. She gets technologically advanced quite quickly if left undisturbed. Learned this the hard way when I was crushing the French with modern armor. At this point she only has bunch of riflemen running around. 30 turns later I finished the French and declared war on her, imagine my surprise when she immediately launched a massive air and naval strike that destroyed half of my fleet!

Roosevelt: Polite, steady and loyal. Good to have at your back. We even had a defense pact together. Bad thing is that he doesn't declare wars on others easily because he "wouldn't turn his back on his friends". Technologically advanced.

Julius Caesar: Hard to deal with. If you could get him to like you though you've got yourself an ally with strong military power. It's quite easy to get him to declare war on your enemies, too.

Saladin: Very religious. If he borders you and you happen to have a different religion, PREPARE FOR WAR! He will actually backstab you if you don't act quickly.

Isabella: I like her. If you have the same religion with her you can count her as an ally already. Also pretty easy to deal with in this case.

Say it with me: "Philosophical and Financial". Killer trait combo. Add in the +10% research she gets for adopting Free Religion (which she always does since it's her favorite civic, despite the historical Elizabeth's rather ruthless persecution of Catholics), and she's a peacetime powerhouse.

In fact she was beelining into the space race with such speed in my game I got Qin and Catherine to declare war on her just to trip her up and give me breathing room. She's too high-tech and well defended for them to really take her out, but she lost a size 13 city to razing and several tiles to pillaging, so I'm quite satisfied. :p

Hatty is always friendly and helpful. Ceasar likes to war with me. Isabella is exactly the way someone earlier described lol..."Time to die!" "Oh wait I'm losing, peace peace!!" Musa is generally a good ally. Catherine used to bug me with war, but I've been playing as Russia lately, so I'm relieved ;)

Hatshepsut will not give me a fair deal. Ever. I hate her personally.

Nick

Same here. However, if I just thorw her some sweep deals, she can be friendly.

Catherine is a bad ass. I want to treat her well, giving her tech and resource, but she still open fire toward me.

Describe the "personality" of each leader/civ (when controlled by the computer). I know that there is not necessarily an exact way that a given civilization will always act however what directions do certain leaders usually head? What strategies do they follow? How do they usually interact with player civilizations?

How do you form alliances with certain leaders or get them to like you? How do you counter them in battle?
Hmm Isabella and I tend to get along very well. I also get along VERY well with Catherine. :king:
And Egypts is also very pleasant to me. However if these three are in the same game. it is almost like they compete for my attention and ultimately declareing war if they are not the favorite. I wonder if that was intentional programming lol

I have played a few games and haven't run into everyone yet but of the ones I have I have to say:

(1) Montezuma is the worst. He always attacks me no matter how much he likes me and despite the fact that he's almost always my religion if he's next door (he doesn't bother with peaceful things like building missionaries).

(2) Alexander is just a more civilized version of Montezuma but make no mistake he's just as much of a jerk.

(3) Mansu is a tech whore who makes a good ally (I don't know which civic it is but somehow my game tends to always align with Mansu's choices).

(4) Cyrus is a great friend.

(5) Both FDR and Washington are very loathe to go to war.

(6) Caesar can make a strong ally or enemy.

(7) Napoleon is to be feared (I have seen him mop the floor with the other AIs in battle twice now).

(8) Mao is a jerk who is obessesed with his favourite civic. Give it up already.

(9) Finally Louis XIV is a special annoyance. He's not much of a threat, but his snotty looks and gestures drive me nuts.

In my games Washington has usually been nice to me, Catherine is a berserk ***** and Mao is always asking me for help.

Saladin usually always wants technologies from me.

I usually play as Hatshepshut.

In my last game, every time I met Montezuma the game crashed. I restarted, of course.

In this game Saladin was very civil until I took 4 of my military overseas to conquer a non-existent barb city (there were barbs all over, but no city???). He then attacked out of the blue with his surprisingly powerful horse archers. Luckily, I had just gotten Redcoats, but he sacked a lot of my border cities' improvements (pretty good AI behavior, at least given I had so few military units to defend with). I took one of his cities, lost none, and now we have "peace." He had converted a few of my cities to Buddhism, so I think I'll spread that around and maybe convert to make him happier (I have all 3 "faiths of the book"). Based on what others have said here, it seems Saladin is pretty good at spreading his faith around.

So far I have had decent relations with Hatshepsut. I was sharing a continent with her and had just one war where I lost a city due to unpreparedness. I gathered a huge force for a counter-strike but then got in trouble with a fairly strong Montezuma-Catherine team and so I called for a peach treaty. But soon enough relations improved and she got to liking me.

Tokugawa is definitely an isolationist it seems. In said game I was fairly decent friends with him but he would not budge on something as simple as Open Borders.

Catherine is tough. Good to have as an ally but you don't want her on your bad side and it's not hard to do.

Isabella is usually unpleasant but has never been strong enough for me to bother with.

Montezuma is a jerkface, as he should be.

Mansa Musa is tough. I have not played too many games but he (or his team) has won twice by space race.
