I searched but there seems to be a lot of conflicting information.

Can one destroy an enemy spaceship by capturing their capital? If so, is the spaceship destroyed AFTER launch or before?

Thanks

Yes, it is destroyed. Doesn't matter if you capture it before or after launch, it is still destroyed.

Nice good to know ... man, wish I knew this before I bailed on games where I was like eh, I won't be able to kill them completely before they launch lol.

It's a pretty weird mechanic to be honest. It has already been launched after all. Nice get-out-of-jail-free card if in a pinch though, if you have the army to punch through.

Yea definitely .. if I had known this I would have won many games I gave up on!

I would assume that if a civ has launched their spaceship, and you take control on their capital, then you could theoretically gain remote command and control (C2) of the ship, since everyone on it is cryogenically frozen. I guess it's on autopilot but I'm sure there is some sort of commo/satellite uplink happening between the ship and the capital. So I just imagine when you capture it, you abort their mission by remote C2.

Thinking about it, that would suck for the people on board the ship.

That should not happen. They would simply move all the essential services elsewhere when the capital is threatened. In fact, in CIV your capital is moved automatically when its captured; and I doubt anyone in one's right mind would have located something as important as spaceship control in a city, anyway. In a remote, hidden and well protected area more like. Still it can be a subject for some espionage action though.
