DI1 - 3CC AW (Look at me I'm insane!)

Excellent point andvruss. I think the G Library is the only way we'll be able to stay near caught up in techs. We should start a pre-build in Tokyo for it or hope for a leader.

BTW, do you have it andvruss?

Great Library sounds like a very good idea, but...

I played an AW 3CC earlier on my way home from work (God Bless Public Transport) and our traits aren't well suited to getting to Literature very quickly.

We dont even have Alphabet do we?

Two trades from now would put us in a position to research Literature ourselves and we all know how highly the AI rates writing :(

Another thought though...

It is almost certain that the Romans are to our north.

They are the only red civ except the babs and we all know, well except Andvruss and Genghis :p , that the babs in our game are blue.

Romans start with Alphabet...

Is it worth us deliberately talking to them and trying to trade for Alphabet?

And another thing, anyone else noticed the connection between Babs, Romans and Greeks...?

Yeah thats it they all have an ancient age UU and worse still the Greeks and Romans have defence 3 units!

How do you stop a Legionary with our forces? Hope a swordsman gets lucky?

Stuff beelining to Literature. WE NEED MATHS and therefore Catapults.

I'll say it again, the AI still seems to run away units that are only lacking but a single hp.

Melifluous out.

Andvruss is up, and may I thank the continued interference/input from

Once again you're right Melifluous. I think Math is the way to go for the cats. We need to make sure we have enough cash before we force a meeting with Caesar. Then again, he knows where we are and may force the issue himself. He doesn't know what he's getting into. :mwaha:

So for our commando raid, do we hit up the Romans or do we go for the Babs?

I answer your question with a question.

Do you want to face Legionaries a lot (3.3.1) or Bowmen (2.2.1).

Not much question ...

I say hit Rome hard and fast.

But heh what do I know :p

The turf to Rome should be open while the turf to Babylon is jungle. We could use our combat engineers (read workers) to road out to the fight easier against Rome than Babylon. Maybe our commando raid should target the romans' iron.

I was just at Sirian's website and reading his AW write up for Epic 14.

In it he sent out units to pillage around the AI's capitols to hurt their production. Maybe that's what we should use our commando raids to do.

Here's the link

He then left his units there so the AI wouldn't send out workers to repair the damage. He calls it "pillage-n-park"(tm). If we use it and it is successful, we'll send him some beer coupons :D

A good tactic when you only have three cities.

Yea, its a great tactic, BUT it only works well with armies. The AI avoids attacking armies like the plague. Any other unit we could send would be killed in a round or two.

But i was thinking 3 or 4 units if we could spare them...

Four warriors would make it...

Also we need to keep our warrior count low-ish to avoid high costs and damage the AI a little...

Until we get catapults then let them come ;)

I dont like the look of the River north of Kyoto though.

I prefer to offensively defend and attack and kill the AI outside the city, that river gives them a 50% bonus if we attack (ie 4.5 defence legion or hoplite). So our best units against theirs is our 3 vs their 4.5. Thats a one in 3 chance of taking a hp, two lots of catapults would do this, but per unit? We need catapults. This reduce the AI to 1hp and give us a 50% chance of winning I think.
Or a 50% bonus to defend, our spears = 3 def vs Legions 3 attack?

Not nice odds.

We need to have a better kill ratio.

But near Osaka its a different story.

Our swords against bowmen(3 vs 2) or hoplites(3v3) without a river bonus. With catapult backing we should win any fight here ;)

Very good points Mel.

The one thing I disagree with is sending 4 or 5 warriors down to pillage. True we need to hurt their production, but I'd rather upgrade the warriors or disband them ourselves. Every throw away unit we give them is a chance at free promotions & a GL for them. An AI getting a GL & rushing the GLibrary would be disasterous for us.

I think we're gonna have to fight a defense war VS the greeks unless they send settler pairs towards us, in which case we have to kill them. We also should try to keep them from getting UU wins, UNLESS their in despotism. I actually wouldn't mind giving them a despotism(read: wasted) GA, as opposed to one in Monarchy or Republic.

Just a couple more points to consider.

How about this tactic... We establish a front with two or three spears per tile. Reading accounts of AW games the AI starts to send units to pillage our tiles. One or two pillages could set us back a huge amount.

Gengis, you are right about sparking a GA for the AI. I suppose earlier is better, none at all would be best, but I wouldn't count on that.

So it sounds like we need to:

1. Establish a solid defensive front north of the Kyoto river.
2. Build a fort and colony on the horses, plus the connecting road.
3. Defend the fort and the road. (Which actually won't be too hard if we build most of the road in the mountains.)
4. Establish a solid defensive front to the south.

And we need to have done all that three turns ago. :hmm:

This isn't going to be easy.

Sounds about right.
Thats deffinatly our #1 priority, that & getting into republic & then getting math.

yea:lol:

Every AW game I've studied so far goes to Monarchy and stays there. Since we're religious, I suppose we could jump over to Republic or Democracy for a short production boost, but will we want to waste the research or either of those? I don't think so. In fact we probably don't want to research anything that doesn't contribute directly to our military effort.

I wouldn't bother to research them.

I saw your advertisment and was wondering if the position has been taken.

I have a reference from Sir Bugsy for a job which allows me to play civ3 during work, if that helps.
