DI1 - 3CC AW (Look at me I'm insane!)

DI1

Pre-flight: Cities – Change Tokyo to Temple due in 15, since it doesn’t have any culture and it is supposed to be our 20K city. No MM needed. :goodjob:

Of course there isn’t any diplo to worry about, and I like the science selection.
Hit enter.

IBT – Well we now have contact! A Babylonian warrior walks up to our boarder.

(1) 1450 BC - Contact Hammy. He’s annoyed (going to be worse very soon!) He has contact with the English, Greeks and Romans. He is up Alphabet and HBR. He has 182G in the bank and 5 cities. Let’s see if he’ll trade. The only trades we can get are per turn deals so I tell him where he can put the deal and declare war.

IBT – Kyoto – Worker => Spear.

(2) 1425 BC – Start the new worker on hooking up the iron. And the worker down by Osaka in clearing the forest NW of the city. My idea here is to clear then irrigate towards the cow. Probably mine after the irrigation project is complete, but that is years down the road.

IBT – Osaka: Warrior=> warrior

(3)1400 BC – :sleep:

(4)1375 BC – :sleep:

IBT – Osaka: Warrior=>Warrior
Bab warrior runs away.

(5)1350 BC – Osaka grows. When we start moving MP out to fight, we’ll have to adjust the sliders. The Bab warrior is circling the edge of our boarders.

Kyoto: Spear=>Spear

(6) 1325 BC – Move spear towards Tokyo for defense and MP duty.

Osaka: Warrior => Worker

(7) 1300 BC – :sleep:

(8) 1275 BC – :sleep:

IBT – Iron road completes.
Kyoto: Spear=> Spear
Osaka: Worker=>Spear

(9) 1250 BC – I didn’t upgrade any swords yet, and here is my thinking. While we are now at war, there isn’t any threat yet. If we run into another civ, we could use the cash to buy a tech. If we do come under attack, we can quickly upgrade our warriors (they are all in the cities right now.)

(10) 1225 BC – :sleep:

We now have 14 warriors, 4 spears, and 4 workers.

I have workers clearing forest NW of Osaka ( we will need to time this to make the best use of the 10 shields), and building a road. There is one south of Kyoto that is building a mine and worked at it my entire ten turns.

Life becomes interesting now in the Always War world of Japan!!

I checked ball player's roster page and he hasn't posted since Sept 4th. Melifuous you might want to check back in a day or so.

Melifuous,
You might want to take it. Ballplayer is MIA :(

Gengis is here to help out in your time of need.:D

Great, now I gotta read 4 pages of notes.

Welcome aboard Gengis!! Now we just need gorm and we'll have everyone in all the SGs :lol:

Wow, we definatly have our work cut out for us. I have a feeling my warmongering will be put to the test in this one.

[edit] andvruss you're up in the resourceless commander.

:rotfl: Yea, after the variety of the SGs we're in together as soon as conquests comes out we'll be playing SID mode from day 1.

I think this will definitely challenge all known tactics.

Do you have any initial thoughts on how we are doing business so far?

Granted all of this is without knowing which direction the Babs will be coming from, north or south. Although I suspect we have enemies on either side from our map position.

Being on a penninsula will help out immensly. With only having to defend from 2 side as opposed to 4 will allow us to put more production into infastructure(a must in all CC & AW games & especially since we're gunnin for 20k).

Since you guys are making a beeline for monarchy I'd continue on that track, but I'd trade for alphabet with the next civ you meet so you can get math & catapolt immediatly after that. Artillary will be crucial for our defense.

We need more workers, we have to make the most out of every terrain spot available with only 3 cities to work with. Plus eventually we'll want to clear the jungle to the south, we don't want the enemy walking through that while on the way to our cities. On the same note I'd position a spear or two on the northern most hill we can see, this will allow us to spot incoming enemies & won't allow them to walk down the line of hills on the way to Kyoto.

I'm also a little worried about the lach of horses inside our cities radius, no horses mean no retreatable units. It also means no samaris. We'll have to eventually get a couple workers, spears, & swords down the the only horse we can see to road/colony/ & fort(once we learn construction). We have to control those horses & all costs & raze any cities that get close & threaten to push it under their control with culture.

I'm kinda looking long term rather then a few turns in the future, but all in all we're looking pretty good. I just can't wait for my turns!

:die:

The Babs came from the southeast. Sorry I should have included that in my log.

Good point about the horses. Now that we have contact, we need to think about making a colony on the horses, hooing it up and defending it.

Heya!

Welcome on board Genghis!

:wavey:

My turns were thus:

Pre-Turn (1225BC) - Pop-Rush the temple in Tokyo (1 citizen). Change Osaka's citizens to MM food. Forest Chop will complete in 2 turns. We may as well get the food box higher.

Turn 1 - (1200BC) - Tokyo temple -> Colossus. Worker completes mine around Kyoto, moves to improve Tokyo.

Turn 2 - (1175BC) - Kyoto spearman -> spearman. Forest chop completes, Osaka spear -> spear. Workers road the BG that the forest reveals. Worker starts mine outside Tokyo.

IT - Single Bab warrior appears east of Osaka.

Turn 3 - (1150BC) - Yawn

Turn 4 - (1125BC) - Workers complete road, start mine outside Osaka, single Bab warrior moves closer.

Turn 5 - (1100BC) - Kyoto spear -> temple. Influence expands at Tokyo. Vet warrior attacks and kills reg Bab warrior outside Osaka for no loss of hp, but no promotion.

IT - Interesting RED border appears NW of Kyoto. I guess it aint all water up there. No contact with whoever it is yet though.

Turn 6 - (1075BC) - Worker completes a hilltop road near Kyoto and moves to improve Tokyo.

IT - 2 Bab warriors move into view east of Osaka.

Turn 7 - (1050BC) - Osaka completes spear -> walls. Workers complete mine near Osaka and start the road to the COW!

Turn 8 - (1025BC) - DAMNIT Kyoto riots :embarrased: Mine completed near Tokyo. Move to next Tokyo mine site.

Turn 9 - (1000BC) - Osaka walls -> sword. Two bab warrior south of Osaka. We ATTACK! Our vet warrior beats reg warrior, 2 hp loss. Next Vet warrior kills reg bab warrior for no hp loss. We see a Greek warrior east of Osaka. We can buy Alphabet and HBR for WM and 119 gold. We buy. They have contact with the Romans and English. Are the Romans to the North of us? Anyway we give the Greeks a well known one fingered salute and declare war. Lux to 10%.

Turn 10 - ( 975BC) - Greek warrior fortifies outta range to the east. MM Kyoto to complete temple next turn. Spearman sent north from Osaka to cover our two cow workers.

And that is that.

We are running 10% lux, 10% science and have 64 gold, doing 0gpt. Tokyo has started its first wonder and we have killed 3 AI units.

Ah it was a good start.

Melifluous

PS. Some thoughts I had led me to believe that we should have established embassies with the foreigners before declaring war.
Also Greece were at LEAST Map Making up on us. They didnt have Polytheism, will gives me hope for the future.

We really need to get Marketplaces as we are currently 14 units over our allowed limit :D

Our current army is 4 workers, 14 warriors and 8 spearmen.

The idea to keep the cash to buy tech was a VERY good idea.

Many thanks :goodjob:

PPS. Should we upgrade a few warriors and go on a commando raid? Razing cities will net us some of their gold and we can erm intefere with their infrastructure.

Also should we get a Colony on the horses? Could easily be covered with a spear or two in the hills to the south.

THE SAVE

Other thoughts I had

1) Should we build a road out east of Osaka? This will enable us to decide when and where to offensively defend the city.

2) Good Point about the catapults. The AI seems to always run damaged units away rather than push the attack.

3) If we left Tokyo undefended then the AI might ignore other targets and head straight for that city through our lands to the North, or through the Mountains and Jungle of the south and east.

Any Thoughts?

Note from Lurker.
Gengis you do not need horses to build Samourai but Iron.
However, it will be clever to get horses anyway for the reason you gave, you will need units with retreat capability, and the possibility to upgrade Horseman to Samourai instead of building Samourai from '0', and later upgrade Samourai to Cavalry.
GOOD LUCK

Good set of turns Melifuous! I think a commando raid is a very good idea. It would be nice to know who has what before we go on one.

Here's a question: If another civ will talk to us can we discuss a deal with them just to get intel on their cities and techs or is that against AW rules?

Since we know the Babs are south, they might be a threat against the horses. Maybe a Commando raid in the direction of the horses.

As far as I am concerned I have no problems with talking to the AI (if they will listen) just to check their resources, cities and tech status SO LONG AS WE DO NOT MAKE PEACE.

Anyone here got a problem with this?

Melifluous

No I don't, talking to the AI to find out what techs/resources they have is perfectly acceptable. Just don't make peace.
