I got a message that "So & So religion was founded by a distant civ..."

That's great, but one turn later I suddenly see that Huyan switched to that same religion, and also shows up as owning the holy city. Now, IIRC, the text should have said HUYAN founded the religion, and not A DISTANT CIVILIZATION....

Was this a bug, or did they change some things in warlords again?

I suppose, it could be possible that an AI I had not yet made contact with, founded it, only to have huyan attack that city in the exact same turn, then switch religions in the exact same turn as well.

Any city you have not seen (not on your map) qualifies as 'distant civ'. If the city is on your map, you get "has been founded in X city" (never "in X civ"). It should say "has been founded in a distant city", given the game mechanics and notification by city, not civ, when it is on your map. A typo, I guess.
