Did the latest Better AI make it onto 2.8?

Well, I'm going to ask anyway. I really hate the slowdown. I'm guessing that simply setting the probability of getting storms to zero won't do the trick - but it might help.

Is there a reasonably efficient quick fix?
os79 can you do me and the community a favor? In the windows finder, do a recursive file search for *.xml in the root MoD directory. Then when you get the results do an order by last modified (to get the XML files YOU modified) and copy those files in a folder, zip it and upload. Would really appreciate if you could share those files with us :-)

:coughcough:

When I said "strip", I meant literally strip. So if you want me to upload the files where I erased storm info, I can upload and you just have to back up these files and then overwrite them.

Though, I think I was being excessive . First, let us see what Afforess or other more experienced modders suggest. That way, you will only to change fewer entries, and not literally strip the storm feature out. I suspect it is putting zero percentchance in eventtriggersinfo, but I can be wrong.

Afforess, Dancing Hoskuld, Civ Fuhrer, suggestions for these people?

Personally I am ok with removing the storm feature completely that way not only are they not calculated, but the AI does not have to "think" about them. Wanna get one decent game done before the weekend is over. As long as the rest of the game is ok and speed is substantially increased as you say then thats all that matters.

EDIT: Yes, I know enough to back up my own files, so again it would be great if you could upload the ones you modified. Thanks...

The file had been removed because I made new modular fix. Look in the Modmods subforum.

I believe we are hitting a wall here that we must learn to accept.

More Content = Longer turn times. Simple as that.

I hate 1-3 minute turns as much as the next guy, but compare those turn times to MP games, or how long it takes for the human. Usually. mid-game, I spend at least a 1 minute on my turn. If every AI spent as long as me, we'd have 30 minute turn times. Be thankful that it can compute much faster than you...

MP games often have 4-5 minute turn times because that one player declares war and takes an eternity assembling there troops, or some such nonsense.

In perspective, it isn't that bad. And, if it really bugs you, buy a second monitor, and surf the web or watch movies during the wait. I listen to audio books.

Yeah i never had that problem with NWA in the per turn stuff, i only had MAF in late games(i dont use BUG). I really think its waaaay too much python content. Sure its nice to have it, but what if someone could do a stripped down version withOUT sooo much python. Python is a killer.

Rev - 20 files.
Bug - 50 files
Contrib - 30 files
Sevopedia - 20 files

My per turn time is less than 30 seconds.

Thanks for your confidence in me when you said I disappeared :D. Really appreciated it. I was a bit busy. I'm an university student after all. Here is a download for you.

Notice: if you use Civ Fuehrer's ANM mod, use the Modules folder and overwrite it. But if you are not using his modmod, then just overwrite XML folder only.

Of course, be sure to back up first.
lol yeah i was impatient to try it out. Okies downloaded and installed, went into world builder and no storms, just what I wanted. Will have to wait till midgame before i can see how much improvement there is. Thanks!

Better, more complex AI also affects the turn times. I think the issue is, while storms are neat... for most people they're not worth it if it drastically increases the turn times - while if you had the same increase but the AI was much better, they'd just accept it as necessary. Personally I use my laptop to troll forums or read manga when the game hits ~500AD and turns start taking a minute or two (giant map, revolutions on, barbariancivs on, afforess's and generalstaffs modmods).

I noticed that having barbarian civ turned off helps drastically. Since I personally don't really care for using it, I noticed the valuable speed improvement. I've also turned off a feature I liked (battle effects) to help with the performance. Now that I see that you guys are getting 1-2 minute turns while I am getting 20sec to 40sec turns in late age I guess its not as bad as I thought it was. I just downloaded the stripped storms file so I may get even faster performance. I hate to advertise or endorse but the new modmod that afforess put out did immensely help with turn times because of the CAR mod that he included. I went from 2-3 minute turns to my 20-40 second turns. I don't know how the designer of the CAR mod did it but it works. :goodjob:

Mmm, too bad the storm stripping breaks my current game, no worries though..
My game was giving 10 minute turn times 551/1050 on GEM.
5 minute or less I can live with, but this is too much.
Trying again, without pagefile, with my added 1,2gb ram, without storms, With high priority :P

The BetterAI is really better in modern era, and it comes at the price of time.
But the AI is now great at balancing between artillery, tanks and other modern units :crazyeye:

What helped to bring turn time down was razing 5-6 civs

Oh sh*t! That means I hae to hurry up and destroy Mongolians and Japan or India before late industrial age! I'm now in early Renaissance age with China as my civ playing 18 preset civs Earth map. The turn time now is on average 30-40 seconds. Not bad compared to some other people's time.

EDIT: Playing with Conquest victory only.

Don't worry, the AI is much better... on land. When it comes to overseas invasions they still DoW you and expect 2-3 unescorted transports to be enough to win the war

Wisely said, Afforess. I think the same, and I did express this opinion couple of times at this forum.
