I'd say yes. Never really made a habit out of cooking for myself or doing my own laundry. Though I certainly can do those things, they're just not on my list of things I think of doing.
Though I was never actively discouraged from cooking or doing laundry, I was never encouraged or taught how to do either. If my mother was in the house, you simply couldn't get near either the washing machine or cooker. Or rather it would be made plain that any such move would be interfering with a closely arranged schedule of tasks.
I suppose my parents assumed we would be intelligent enough to figure it all out for ourselves when we left home.
Oh. I tell a lie. My mother did teach me how to make pancake batter in about 5 minutes shortly before I left home for the first time.
She was actually a good cook (having learnt it from her mother-in-law). So I knew what stuff should look like, and I didn't make too bad a job of cooking.
She used to say if you knew how to read a recipe you could cook. Which is kind of true. But you soon find out recipes leave a great deal of information out.
I guess, my parents being primary school teachers, they'd had enough of teaching children stuff during the working day.
