Diety Succession Game

The red dots are the locations I suggest we found cities. After republic, should we completely stop researching techs and try to steal our way to chivalry? We will have both iron and horses next turn. I like how we're going almost immediately from warriors to knights

looks like a rough ride, but we held on :goodjob: Try and settle the empty spots fast and then prepare for revenge.

I wouldn't build regular units, please get raxes up first now that we are in peace. By the way, do I spot a Mayan settler pair? Please try to block it so we can settle our spots.

Got it. I might not have a too eventful set. Republic coming in in 4 turns; I guess I'll spend half my set in Anarchy.
I'm not sure what 'stealing techs' means, but I thought we had a nice broker position between the 2 continents? It might allow for some zero research.

EDIT: Save is missing. I'll need that one!

For some reason I always thought that option only came up with Espionage, but you're right, it's available with embassies.
Then I'm wondering what extra options Espionage gives... does it make it cheaper, or something?

I have a question for the team about AI behaviour.

I've played 7 turns. Maya are approaching Groningen with a stack of 2 Ancient Cavalry (yes, they've got them as well), 1 Javelin Thrower and 1 Medieval Infantry. Earlier I gave in to a demand of them and payed 50 gold, but they've obviously got lots of units and fancy attacking somebody, it's blatantly obvious.
Now, what I would normally do here is pay them some gpt for an RoP. I've seen AI stacks then turn around and attack somebody else. We can get an RoP with them for 5gpt + 3 gold up front. That wouldn't be much if that would avoid a war with them, but I don't know whether that's enough, or whether we would be safer if we were paying more. What do you think?
It's worth something for us to keep Groningen, as it holds the spices.

How could they possibly have ancient cavalry as well? Did they capture Rotterdam? The RoP sounds like a decent idea.

lurker's comment:

Do you have anything of value to offer them to go fight someone else far away? Like maybe that light blue territory (America?) in the north?

We've got some cash, about 600 gold, nothing much per turn, as we're in Anarchy, no techs, at least not for the Maya, who are in the lead.
And the civilopedia for this game lists the Statue of Zeus as a small wonder, so anybody with Ivory can build it then.

Well, I appear to be the guilty one with regards to the Statue of Zeus. I have modded my game to make it a small wonder, but I didn't know it would affect SG's. I was convinced the game would behave according to the rules set in the conquests file at startup. Like I also have set oases as not appearing anywhere, but they still appear in this Dutch game, because they've been chosen at the start.
Clearly for wonders it's different. Other SG's I'm in haven't seen strange things happening yet, but I clearly need to be more careful. I'll change my settings back, but I can't do anything about the Statue of Zeus appearing more than once in this game anymore.

That's very unfortunate and we actually burnt a lot of shields for nothing. We could have continued with a Glib attempt as the SoZ could be rushed with any MGL. This sort of modding should be clear from the start, especially in a SG.

Well, what is done is done, but facing ACav's all the way from all the nations on our continent will make this game very tough. I would actually restart in such a case without modding.

As for steals, we do not need that at the moment as we should be in a good position to trade bait as long as only we know both continents. Stealing at this level without spies is very risky business unless we are very strong, which we aren't.

we should buy republic now for gpt from Maya as we could trade it for mono
Also, we could think of gifting Germany to the MA. With republic, lit and mono, we should be able to get a tech from them unless they draw mono as well.

We do not need to steal yet, tech trading should keep us in the game for a while now.

I still have it. I thought people wanted to quit, as ThERat indicated so, and no people really responded to my question about what to do with the advancing Maya.
Everybody already had Republic when it came in, so no trades were possible then, but gifting Germany into the Middle Ages would be a good idea.

That's why I stated to get republic immediately and then mono etc. We certainly have the cash. On deity, any good 2-fer or 3-fer trade must not be neglected or you fall behind.

But, I agree to restart this with standard settings. To fight all the civs on our continent with ACavs is a little too much
