Warlords was installed on Civ IV Chronicles. I uninstalled it and Warlords, to install Civ IV Gold in order to try and Beyond the Sword, which again... won't install with error code

Error Code: -5005 : 0x80070001
Error Information:

So I went back and with Gold installed and working well tried to reinstall Warlords and its telling me Civ IV isn't properly installed. But, it is working just fine.

So... should I uninstall Gold, reinstall Civ IV Chronicles, try Warlords again which WAS installed fine, working fine from Chronicles.

btw.. this is a new computer but Windows XP. On my old computer I had installed Civ IV Gold, Warlords and Beyond the Sword and Colonization, all installed fine and worked perfectly.

Hope someone can help me get Warlords AND Beyond the Sword installed. Which Civ IV should I use though?

The "Gold Pkg." gives you Vanilla Civ IV and the Warlords Expansion. BtS (Beyond the Sword) was the 2nd expansion put out after Vanilla and Warlords, and revamped the game completely. IF you had Gold installed before you would have had to purchase the BtS content seperately, was that how you did it? Or did you have the Civ IV COMPLETE which covered everything?

In order to install either of the expansions (Warlords or BtS) you would need the base Civ IV game already installed, so unless that is there you won't get a good install. I would suggest installing each piece, starting with Vanilla and then adding each expansion if that is what you want. Make sure you download the most current patches for each version also.

Civ4 Gold already includes Warlords. I assume by civ4 chronicles you mean civ4 complete? Civ chronicles is a box set that includes all versions of civ released up to civ4 vanilla.

Not sure what you mean Civ 4 Complete. I just assumed both the Chronicles game and the Civ IV Gold game are complete already.

My old original Civ IV was destroyed long ago. So I bought the Civ Chronicles pack, which includes from the first Civ game to Civ IV, but no expansion packs. Then I also bought, while buying, Beyond the Sword, Warlords and Colonization, the Civ IV Gold game.

On this and my old computer the Civ IV games, both from the Chronicles pack and the Civ 4 Gold, work perfectly fine. No problems installing or playing.

I did not know though that Warlords come with the Gold. Good to know and explains why its there in my programs though I had just uninstalled Warlords. So I'll leave that alone.

Now... Beyond the Sword. I get that same error message regardless of whether its Chronicles or Gold. That was not a problem on my old computer, where I was able to install Beyond the Sword with no problems and play it fine after Civ IV Gold.

So... Beyond the Sword now is my main problem now with that crazy error message each time. Could my install disc be corrupted? If I need to buy a new one I will.

Thanks for the help!

Yes... I bought BTS seperately from Amazon.com. And yes, it changes the game enough I feel robbed just playing Civ IV now. This is why I am upset I can't figure out that error message or what to do about it.

Ok... so Civ IV Gold is not the way to go? But uninstall that and go back and reinstall CIV IV Chronicles, then Warlords, which I bought also seperatly and then Beyond the Sword?

So this is what I have... the Civilization Chronicles pac all in one box, which includes every game from the very first Civilization, Civ I, Civ II Fantastic Worlds, Civ II Conflicts, Civ II Test of Time, Civ III and Civ IV.

I am only installing Civ IV. I am not sure what version the Civ IV is in the Chronicles pac. I assumed it was the base game.

Then I have Civilization Gold, seperate from the pack.

Warlords

Beyond the Sword

Colonization

I plan to buy Civ V soon.

Well, it should work, given that my current install of BtS is rooted in a copy of vanilla from chronicles. Did you install any patches before installing BtS? My usual install order is this: Vanilla, 1.61, 1.74, Warlords, 2.13, BtS, 3.19.

Good to know. I'll try that path and see what happens.

I'm defenitley not your best tech guy, just trying to help out since I had a similar prob. when I had my Civ IV Gold edition and then later got BtS.

The best way it was explained to me was this. Civ IV "Vanilla" the basic game no expansion packs, has to be installed and it's a good idea to patch it up to the last official patch for the game, I believe it was 1.74, but you can check that in the downloads section here. You should then be able to install Warlords, and/or BtS. Warlords really just had a couple of tweaks and some new scenarios, all of which are also included in BtS. Install BtS and it's approriate patches and you should be ready to roll from there. Having the "Chronicles" I wouldn't think should make a difference since it's just a jumbo pack of separate games that should be installed into their own places. If your still having problems, try installing just the Civ IV content and not the other Civ I, II, or III as there might be a conflict somewhere in there. I run windows xp without any problems, so your OS shouldn't be causing any problems.

As to your OP, the BtS expansion truly transformed the game and made it into an all time classic hit. There really isn't anything in the Warlords expansion that isn't covered in great detail in BtS, and the Mod Community on this Web site has made the game so in depth you'll enjoy it for a long time to come.

Very much agree!! Thanks so much for your help. ;) I'm going to stick around more.

Already have Civ IV Gold uninstalled. So I'm off now to reboot and begin installing. Oh and I agree I have not much use for Warlords, since Beyond the Swords keeps me plenty busy. Can't wait to see what Civ V is like.

Followed the exact same path and still got this error message. Could scratches to the install disc cause this error?

Think I better buy a new BTS cause I never had this happen before.

Yikes. No fun there. I'm not tech savvy enough to tell you about the condition of the disc, but I will tell you how I took care of it. I bought Civ IV Gold and lost the disc. I turned around and re-bought it through Direct2Drive on line download for minimal money. I now have a digital copy stored on my machine, and through my account with D2D since they keep copies of whatever you purchase through them. That's also how I got BtS.

Check out some of the threads around here relating to Civ V. There are many opinions, most of them not the best, especially since the minimum requirments of the game require a monster computer with a big Video Graphics card, etc. Honestly there is enough BtS content with the Mods on this site to keep you entertained for a long time, giving them time to work out the kinks in Civ V.

Good luck. :)

So I have Civ IV Gold and BTS expansion. When I got Gold I had issues with the install due to having a friend's copy of Civ IV vanilla already installed. I uninstalled that, then installed Gold, then BTS and everything works fine. Maybe you need to try to uninstall the Civ 4 component of Chronicles

Sorry for not getting back around for a while. I will take your advice on getting BtS installed. I am quite happy with it and the mods content keep me very challenged, so I'm in no hurry to move on. Just have been frustrated to get BtS squared away.

:D :crazyeye:
