Difficulty level?

Well... my actual game seem to be... ok. Monarch, but I am able to maintain steady economy and good army. Also in number of cities I'm on the first place. Maybe my previous bad experience with monarch was because of poor starting location and early enemy invasion.

Guys, maybe you don't understand: it's not a matter of "settler" or "emperor" difficulty level. It's a matter of values inside some xml files. If you try a new game with the latest SVN version with noble difficulty and normal speed, I think you'll be surprised finding it almost as hard as monarch probably. :) As I said, a higher difficulty level doesn't mean a smarter AI; it just means an AI which has more bonuses in comparison to human players (faster research and unit building, lower inflation, etc). :)

This is something I've tried to relate to several of the posters before. And is why I play on Noble level for all play testing/beta testing, level playing field between player and AI. But some ppl are a bit stubborn. Isn't that right Sarge. ;) :mischief:

in normal civ 4 bts is it still true about AI intelligence.I think diplomacy been more pain in harder settings.

No, as far as I know, it's not true even for original BTS. The only things that changes from one difficulty level to another one are speeds for tech researching, units training, buildings and wonders creation, cost of maintenance and gold production/inflation and AI attitude towards war against human players and some other less important modifiers. I don't think there is a way to make AI smarter or dumber with difficulty level; maybe it's possible to code different AI behaviours based on the difficulty level but I think it's too hard to do, probably useless, and it would slow down the game too much.

I don't know what your talking about 45, what did you change in xml that improved the ai so much? I only see you gave an inflation decrease for ai, I can't see anything else. You changed stuff around with speeds and such but it all affects human players too. You also made this change to happiness bonus.
Noble from 3 to 4.

Monarch from 2 to 4.

This makes monarch MUCH easier not harder..

It's what I'm talking about... I didn't "improve AI so much" because I can't (and it's not my job to) make AI smarter; I'm just trying to make it possible for AI to win the game by allowing it to research every tech and building units, and currently I've done it only for normal speed and noble level. As the game was, at least with noble/normal, AI was unable to research ANY tech beyond modern era, thus making it very very easy to win any game. Another thing I changed is inflation (always at normal/noble) because AI was bankrupting when reaching modern era. I don't think I have made any change to happiness bonus, actually. And I surely haven't change anything for Monarch (yet). Which file did you see that change in?

Edit: I've seen now what you mean about happiness bonuses, but actually I don't remember changing anything on other difficulty levels; I only worked on noble. I'll have a look at it anyway. Thanks for pointing this out.
