I was just wondering why in both MGE and TOT, every other civ automatically hates you. Whether its multiplayer or I'm playing alone, the only way to prevent a war is to have the wall or UN. Whats up with that and how (if its possible) can I fix it?
Thanks

you are playing at deity, aren´t you?
the game is more challenging that way, if you want a better attitude try in a lower level

Actually, I've tried it on all levels. After the first turn of contact and diplomacy, the opposing civ's attitude turns to hostile. This dosen't happen on my copy of civ 2, only on mge and tot. I could eave the diplomacy screen with the other ruler enthusiastic or worshipful, and i the next turn (no matter what) they would become hostile. Its kind of annoying when the whole world is at war with you all the time.

I don't really play MGE, but I know someone mentioned a patch/upgrade to MGE where the hostility problem is not as bad.:)

Maybe you could search for a recent thread about this in either Civ2 - S&T or GD.

I don't notice that (altough I don't remember checking their attitudes much)

I do remeber that they don't accept your offers much (we have no need for useless American maps)

If they offer a trade, you might want to take it

The only "patch" I am aware of to deal with this is Cedric's patch to make an MGE game into FW or Classic 2.4.2!!! Smash made some comments about how to manipulate the MGE AI in the Size 1 OCC thread (Strategy forum) but the problem (automatically reset attitudes) is always there in MGE as far as I know. From what I've read, Microprose never would recognize it as a "bug" so it was never addressed in a patch.

If you play MGE, you may as well resign yourself to the fact that the AI hates you. IMHO, this is somewhat realistic. In the course of human afairs (no political pun intended), various civilizations have always been subject to hostile neighbors, raging barbarians, etc. , so the hostile AI just adds a touch of realism to the game. If you really do not want to play against a hostile AI, the best recourse is to play classic 2.42.
