Hi,
I'm wondering if it is possible to disable the unit workshop. I'd rather have a set of predefined units (kind of like Civ). Does anybody know if and how this can be done ? I already tried to edit all of those rule files but I wasn't able to do it.

Thank you very much
DSuLA

If you simply don't use the unit workshop, default units are generated each time a new tech is discovered. These appear in your build list. So if you just ignore the workshop button, it functions exactly like civ.

I personally wish there was a way to disable the prebuilt units from appearing. I only use units I make, and I think the computer would be better if it did as well.

Be sure to diable auto design units in the game preferences. This will limit game designed units to a few. The base units, which can be obeleted but not retired, and three sets of upgrade when you discove the fusion, quantum, and singularity reactors (the fusion is ok, because that uincreases the effectiveness and cost effectiveness of most affect units, but the other two are irritating, since that increase the cost of many of your continuing units like colony pods and formers, and you have to redisgn them back to fusion.)

Naturally when one has forgotten to disable auto-design units keeping your own hand-tailored units in the list is a pain in the ***.

I remember the good old days before I realized/discovered that function, I would design plentiful of quirky units for myself, and *whenever* a new tech appeared they would change the names of about half of those units, re-activate a few obsoleted units and create a few new, non-interesting units.

Oh well.

If you have left auto prune off and auto design on, it can get worse. You can run of unit slots (in the WORKSHOP, NOT the boxed in the build screen of the base control). If this happen you weakest desing can get automaticlaly retired en masse. All those trance scout infs and police units guarding low threat bases against worms? POOOF! they are gone.

Ouch..!

I imagine that could certainly be *very* bothersome. I have never been through it myself though, but I am quite sure I would remember it if I had.
