Is there a way to turn off the horseman barbarian settlements? On Immortal difficulty, I'm finding that those settlements can single-handedly mess up a map. There have been times where I've been completely wiped out thanks to 2 horseman settlements near my capital. More commonly, horseman settlements manage to completely stymie the AI. Either way, they're just stupidly powerful and an un-fun feature.

Sadly no, beyond editing the code there is nothing you can do about it.

A little tip; if barbarians are giving you grief you are probably not prioritising archery enough for Immortal+ play. Make sure you built three slingers and research archery ASAP (I usually go scout-builder-3 slingers in the cap)so you can upgrade them immediately, it'll help turn early AI rushes from ragequits into free cities for your empire.

I don't know what civ you're playing, but I had a hard time with barb horsemen when playing Sumeria. They were wiping out my war carts until I accidentally discovered a solution. I fortified a war cart on a hilltop with a rain forest on it. The barb horsemen kept attacking that war cart and destroying themselves in the process. So perhaps you could try that. Fortify a unit on a forested hilltop and let the horses bang away at it while other units concentrate on eliminating the camp that is spawning the horsemen.
