I'm not sure what happened but after installing gods and kings the game now does this. Any ideas on how to fix it?

I don't know what you might need but there is most of it.
It used to work just fine.
And no, deactivating G&K doesn't fix it.

If you can find what's wrong I would be very appreciative.

The part with the display is more important (check where you got the info from, there are some other tabs).

Oh, do you start in DX9 or DX11? If the latter, then you should try (for testing) the former, because it stresses the computer a bit less than DX11.

I've tried both and the problem is the same both ways.

There could be some corrupted files that need to be re-varified in steam.

Heating issue. Make sure the laptop is properly vented and dust free.

In Steam, go to "Library", go to Civ5, make a right click on it, go there to "properties", then to the tab "local files", and then there should be an option like "check the integrity of the game's files". Hit that button multiple times, until no more files have to be re-acquired. After that is done try to play it again.

I did that but then when i try to launch the game, it brings up a box saying "completing installation" and if I verify the files again there is one that fails.
